Turns out it was in fact a bad battery causing the no start issues - Dealer installed brand new battery and all is good!

Thanks again for all the helpful input!

One gotcha is the transmission - It needs to be serviced regularly - fluid & filter change. The LR3 manual and dealerships say that it is sealed for life - this is simply not true unless you want it to have a short life! Ours started to give a little shudder changing from 1st to 2nd - after investigation I found an independent transmission workshop that specialised in ZF transmissions but it was too late and my transmission needed a rebuild/repair at about $6500 AUD + 10% tax. The service is about $750 recommended at 80000Km intervals. Note our problems appeared at about 130000Km but when you notice the shudder its too late hence 80000 km interval recommended. This could have been avoided if the dealership and our local independent Rover repair workshop had advised it be done as part of the standard service schedule! Other manufacturers with the same ZF transmission recommend that the transmission be serviced.
