Hi all - I have a 2012 LR4 Lux and have be completing some minor updated - will post pictures soon. When I bought my 2012 I liked the traditional style gearbox but now am wanting the 2014+ style rotary knob found on most rovers today. Is it possible to swap over the 2012 style gear shifter to a 2014+ knob? I belive its do able - however it may just take a bit of effort and someone who knows electrical wiring.

1 - You would need to add paddle shifters which can be done. I write up on how to do so and enabling the function with the Gap IID tool can be found here from Powerful UK.

2- The terrain response and gear shift would need to be replaced. The terrain response is a direct plug and play for the new style. This would need to be replaced to due to where the trim meets on the rotary knob.

3 - It appears the classic gear box and rotary knob have different electrical inputs. Does anyone know what wire feeds into this? Is it the body harness or something branching off from it? Would a custom wiring harness need to be made?

4- After these modifications are done..you should be good to go... or am I missing something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the rotary knob and I hate it. I would prefer to go back to the traditional gear selector or at minimum go with the anodized red rotary knob which may make me like it more.

Totally agree. That rotary shift wheel was one of the many reasons I bought the lowest mileage used 2013 LR4 I could find to replace our LR3 instead of a new 2015 LR4.

I prefer the shift lever over paddle shifters when offroad in sand and selecting the gears myself to keep the revs up. Also because I drove manuals for the last 35 years until now that they are nearly extinct.

The rotary dial is part of the 8speed transmission. All V8's are equipped with a 6speed tranny so you can't swap it unless you replace the entire transmission.
