I have a 1996 Disco 1, 75k.

First thing in the morning the engine is quite after about 5min of driving / warm up I get a tick tick tick tick, it pretty much goes away around 800RPM or so.

I'm thinking it might be:

a) Exhaust leak
b) Injector
c) Other

Any thoughts?

Thanks Justin

Lack of oil making them little rockers ticking as oil thinning with heat and lack of lubrication jumps in. Check yer oil level :)

Some old school shaufers (yey! i can spell!) actually saying its sound of healthy engine. But i think in this case they are wrong (as on many other occasions older engine wisdom isnt really applicable to modern stuff. Well. Semi-modern)

I let my Landy warm up until tick tick tick stops. Usually about 3 minutes.
not sure, but i think i have a small exaust leak @ bottom of exaust manifold
where manifold meets pipe.

Sometimes, When mine doesn't go away I drive fast for a long time and then it stops the noise. Best Wishes!

When my '97 had that noise, first thing I found was the exhaust manifold to the 'Y' Pipe bolts were loose (can't remember which side), then about 2 months later I found a crack in the passenger excaust manifold...that is when I switched to headers

Had same problem but im my case the exaust manifold area was cracked. New component fixed it without a hitch.

I would think that the noise would go away after it warmed up if it was an exhaust leak, not start at that point. Heat expands parts. My driver side exhaust manifold is leaking at startup due to a small crack in it, and once the manifold warms up to operating temperature the noise goes away.

I'd put my money on something in the engine like lifters or valve clearance... Hopefully someone who knows more about these engines will give better advice on what is ticking.
