Yesterday my discovery 2 (2003 with 108k miles) started having some overheating issues. It started overheating after sitting at long stop lights when I wasn't moving. Going anywhere in the 10-15 mph range would solve the issue. Drove it on the highway that night for 1-2 hours. Today it overheats while driving. I thought it was a fan since that had seized up 2.5 years ago and I replaced it with a smaller generic fan. Tested the fan and it works great, no issues. So before I start throwing parts at it, I'm hoping someone with more experience would know where a good place to start would be.

over heating

First I would try bleeding the system of air
second I would go with the "hot Climate" thermostat
If one and two don't work change out your water pump

I have a 2003 DISCO and had the same issues. I did all the above plus a new radiator and it has worked fine thru Alabama hot summers
