Use the steering wheel controls. They are excellent. The volume knob on the right is for passenger use.

Yeah, I figured it out the next day. I just knew they couldn't have overlooked that.. :D

When is the first software upgrade going to come in? Glitches are becoming more prevalent:

    1. Cameras sometimes won't work (complete with a message to have the dealer service them)

    2. Screen goes blank, or takes a full minute to come on after startup

    3. "Vehicle not in Park" message at startup, when I'm 100% sure I put it in park prior to shutting down. This has been happening a lot lately..

    4. Could not select reverse when backing into a parking spot. This one got my attention..

    5. Parking sensors come on..sometimes. Other times I have to manually select them..

    6. Pull into parking spot, select park, and the engine shuts off. Am I free to just get out and leave? When I push the start button the engine starts- most cars you have to push the power button to signify you are shutting the car off as it's essentially still "on"! I'm getting pretty good at making the "I meant to do that" face when I restart the car 5 seconds after parking:biggrin:

I'm sure this stuff is going to be addressed, just wondering if some of you are seeing some of the same things..

    Off soapbox,

    Mike

Hi, i have driven the new Lr5 with the expectation of exchange for a 2014 lr4
i Have owned a Range rover Sport 2010, and also an earlier 2012 LR4 ( all Diesel)
Any how, even though i am a Landrover Fan, I have swapped for a new 2017 Volvo XC90 R design
I am very pleased with the 2Litre Diesel engine performance, no turbo lag, which makes a huge improvement over the 3L Landrover motor , Day to Day
Still unsure about heavy tow performance, where the LR shines.
Unfortunatly the other thing i was unhappy about with the new LR5, is the lack of tail gate and the lack of a proper Flat loading area when seats folded down.

    Mike,
I'm experiencing those same issues and hope they get fixed in the next software update.
However, I believe #6 is supposed to happen and is related to the stop/start function. I think it is only supposed to turn off when you unbuckle your seat belt though. The thought is that if you have stopped, put the car into part and unbuckled your seat belt, that you must want to turn the car off. I think this function would be disabled if you turn off the stop/start function

Ah! Thanks, that makes sense.. Perhaps if I RTFM more often I'd know that..

I'm wondering if the camera issue has to do with a connection, I have random cameras going out all the time now...

I chose the D5 over the Volvo so interesting to see an alternative viewpoint. I think your engine runs on gas. The first thing I noticed when driving the XC90 is how much road noise came from the floor due to the tires. That is a big check mark for a luxury vehicle. The D5 does very well in keeping the interior quiet. Second, the 4 cylinder feels and sounds like a 4 cylinder. While it certainly can do the job it just wasn’t fun to drive. The deal breaker was 5000lb tow capacity compared to 7800lb for the D5. The seats do fold flat in mine and the powered tailgate is fantastic as stuff no longer falls out when you open the rear door so I’m unsure what you were referring to on that.

I recently purchased a 2017 New Discovery Diesel. My reason for buying is I like diesel engines for towing boats and with the VW diesel fiasco, few brands are available. It seemed reasonable that the Discovery should be a good choice to replace an Audi Q7.

I have generally been satisfied with the car aside from the Adaptive Cruise control, the Advanced Tow Assist, and the need to continually have to reconnect the IN Control device.

I preface the following comments with the admonition that I am not well versed in internet, internet connections, nor am I proficient in smart phone manipulation(s).

I cannot find any dealer with knowledge on making the ATA (Advanced Tow Assist) work. I have watched various YouTube videos but they do not show how they set the system up to make it work. I think I have followed the manual instructions and the screen instructions, but I can't get the target placement to be consistently recognized on either of my boats. I can get no help from LR Customer Service. Any suggestions from the forum would be most appreciated as would advise and where to get help.

The Adaptive cruise control reminds me of 2000 Volvo S-80 standard cruise control. It is rather primitive for today's technology. I will ask the servicing dealership if they can fix problem's, i.e. maintaining set following distance, speeding up on hills, and losing contact with vehicles, with the Adaptive Cruise Control but I cannot imagine LR would permit changing the system in any way.

I did purchase the AT&T WIFI but the 3G coverage does not match my Verizon coverage. I turn off my Roaming on my iPhone because the phone starts streaming Spotify, Pandora, when the 3G AT&T coverage stops but the Verizon doesn't. I don't have unlimited data on the iPhone. I have no idea what the in control deal is capable off, but it is rather slow and I am not a most patient person. Again I am not computer savvy. Any suggestions on using the iPhone apps such as Off line Route planning, starting the car via the Remote App and using the IN Control function would also be appreciated.
