After weeks of trying to solve engine misfire in cylinder 4, shop finally tore down the engine in my 2003 Discovery II (54,000 miles) and found #4 and #1 sleeves have slipped, with a squeaky clean piston top in #4.

The block is in good shape, never overheated so I'm wondering if the sleeves can be removed and replaced with a top hat type (a la automotivecom.com)?

If so, is it something most engine shops should be able to do? Don't really want to fork out $4500 for a new engine, but don't know if I should take the risk of trying a used on either...

Can someone help me weigh the options?

Thanks.

Give Nathan @ discountbritishparts.com a call, he can either give you some good engine advise or can find you a good used engine.

Can definitely be done.

My 4.0 V8 slipped a liner, so I had all the liners replaced with top hat liners.

And since the engine was apart, I got them to fit a 4.6 crank.

She now goes at a decent rate of knots.
