OK, this *must* be in a FAQ somewhere, so I apologise for that.
I have just bought a 2001 Freelander Td4 ES which has done 50,000 miles and I would like to know if my VCU is performing as it should.
When I perform a slow manouevre on a good surface with hard steering I can definitely feel resistance. I think I understand what the VCU does and how it works, so I would expect some resistance, but how much is too much?
I have read about the suggestion of drawing a line along the VCU and going for a test drive too see if the two halves of the line separate. That makes sense to me to test if the unit is seized, but I don't have the facility to get underneath to check that.
Would it be obvious from the drivers seat when performing slope speed manoevres if the unit was seized?
