The "smart key message" never showed up, but that omission could have been part of the glitch. As I said, my dealer stepped up and gave me a new LR4 (so far so good). not that it is much consolation but the tow truck driver that picked up my dead LR4 said that he gets "lots" of these problems...- FloridaRancher

Unfortunately the only update is that the dealer still has my LR4 (five days and counting) and they haven't been able to find out what was/is wrong with it. Windshield visibility issue?
They don't make one and after market non-wired ones are hard to find. No - I didn't try the key-under-the-steering column - unfortunately the LR service manager didn't tell me that when I was on the phone with him sitting in my dead car. Thanks for all the other info as well. I will ask them about the battery and software as well. Thanks again.- FloridaRancher
