Upgrade or keep 2010 V8?
Hey guys, appreciate all your thoughtful comments. Talked it over with my mechanic. He was somewhat down on the sc V6 re. Coolant leaks (V8 not immune to that too) and refinement. Upgrade or keep 2010 V8?
So, have owned our 2010 since 2018. Bought it at 106k km and have put 100k km on it since then. It has never stranded us. Love driving it and the versatility of loading the back up with home reno supplies, dogs etc. Have done the usual repairs as parts wear out. Last couple of years not many...- Mozambique

Sounds like I am in good company. Waiting for the replacement idler pulley to come in on Tues. Also looking g at coolant hose replacement as PM. It's about time. NOT looking to do timing chains :)- Mozambique

Problem solved. The belt tensioner pulley wheel bearing detonated. New belt tensioner installed. Replacing the smaller idler pulley too as PM. Good thing at 205k km as after I took it off I found it's bearings are rough and noisy (other idler pulley replaced after it detonated last year). Got...- Mozambique

Progress.....well sort of. Drove 5 mins to pick up takeout and when I restarted the engine I lost power steering and alternator charging. Limped home and had a look. The 2k km old serpentine belt has come off, so I am guessing either an idler pulley (replaced one 2k km ago) or the ps pump pulley...- Mozambique

Guys, Many thanks for your assorted responses. Much appreciated! Obvs been a week or two and weather too crappy to investigate further. In that time did a 600 mile road trip. Coolant leak & collapsed top hose when cold?
I used AC Delco dex-cool compatible dye. Yes, head gasket leak has occurred to me. Checked for white smoke - none. No mayo on oil cap either. Weather crappy at present so no chance to try and ID leak source. Note that the fan does have a slight wobble. Does that sound normal, or water pump going...- Mozambique

Didn't overfill the reservoir. I suspect air in system re. Leak. Coolant has been changed within past 4yrs- Mozambique

Yes, coolant system work done 4yrs ago. I am not so concerned about the extra coolant per se. It's more the erratic behaviour. Yes, opened reservoir cap and the hose remained collapsed. 2010, V8, 205k km. Water pump and crossover pipes changed at 160k km. Original hoses. So, checked the coolant level last week and it was down to the base of the reservoir. No obvs sign of leaks. Ah that's a thought. I did read about worn motor mounts and the fan shroud elsewhere. The noise is odd in that it doesn't always have a steady rhythm.
