For whatever it’s worth, I am soon getting the Prospeed rack installed and plan to carry 200-300 lbs on the roof for 3 months straight (25000 km) in fairly rough terrain (Central Asia). I’ll tell you how it held.

yeah, well of course you can just as I have but I'm saying no matter how you look at it, the gutter system is stronger. you could literally lean the vehicle into a tree and have that rack hold the thing off.

Gotcha, jwest! I’ll do my best not to lean into anything, though, if I can avoid it:). My goal is to overland more than offroad - or in other words, to only offroad when needed for overlanding:). Still, I’d like that rack - and the vehicle - to hold for a quarter century still, with a trip like this (or longer, once I retire) every year, as long as health (mine and the car’s) allows. We’ll see!

Sounds like quite the excursion. I would love to see photos of that, if appropriate. Are you on Instagram?

Hi, thanks, I hope it will be a morsel! I’m not on Insta and not sure I will be for security reasons but I don’t mind sharing some pix here once I’m back:).

I would be interested in hearing some details on this, as well.

You live over there now?
Travelling from USA and shipping your Rover over?
Planned route?

Sounds like a cool trip.

No, I actually live in Europe. I guess I should be on the British forum, logically, but I guess this one was the first one to pop up back when I was looking for my first clues on what to do with the car that I’d just bought:). So I’ll be travelling from Western Europe to Kazachstan overland (a whole weak to get there and then again to get back), joining a commercial expedition - my last one, I hope. Cause this year, I’m getting (almost) all the equipment that’s still missing. Actually getting more than I think I’ll need, just to test everything in a supervised setting, then get rid of what proves to just be extra weight… And from then on, I mean from next year onwards, it’s not far from what you’re asking about. I intend to ship the car to a new overseas location each year, then fly to it and drive it around for 3 to 4 months… and then be back to my daily life;). Luckily, I have a job that should make this possible! If it does, cross your fingers for me, guys, I’m going for Gunther Holtorf’s record! And if you don’t know who that is, then what the hell are you doing on this forum:)?! Just kidding, of course, but worth checking...

Oh, I forgot to mention! Planning to visit Ukraine, Belarus, Russia on the way to Kazachstan - and then on to Kirgistan, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Armenia and even Nagorno Karabakh:).
