    Maintenance charger for battery

I have been using the CTEK US3300 retainer for probably the past ten years or so. It is the 3.3 amp model that charges at 14.4 VDC for summer and 14.7 VDC in winter mode. My 3 is a daily driver so about for a week of nights every three months or so, I will connect it to bring my Interstate...

Tires. Michelin Defender LTX M/S vs Bridgestone Dueller H/L Alenza plus

I will be looking to purchase new summer tyres this spring and will probably purchase the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza H/L 255 55 R19 111V XL again. I purchased the previous set July 2012 and probably over the past seven seasons, put 60,000 miles on them. I had no problems with them at all; quiet...

    How crazy would it be...

I wondered if that was what you were referring to. I think I have head of guys putting that in the older Land Rovers including the Defender. I still think GM is correct with their pickups not to follow Ford with the blower type engines. Land Rover used a small block Buick aluminum engine at...

H7 LED or Halogen Fog Light Bulb Recommendations

For my 2005 LR3, Osram Xenarc Night Breaker Unlimited D2S 4350K HID A few months back I replaced the 35 watt 4300K Philips D2S HID 85122C1 xenon bulbs in my LR3 which has the HID headlight assemblies due to yellowing and reduced light output. As I was happy with the Philips, I was hesitant to...

    Another Defender hint?

Below is a Car and Driver link to the same photo with additional text. The steering wheel looks Ford to me, so I guess my question is the Defender some some variation of the 2020 Ranger? https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a26340880/land-rover-defender-interior-spy-photo/

Tata's LR' current Pre-Release product testing standards

Your are cheating death - no fair, and the SPOT means someone will find you eventually - or at least know where to dig for the snow covered wrecks and bodies within. Me, I take a glove box full of Eat More chocolate bars - Eat More because they do not melt in the heat from the heater. Yes...

Tata's LR' current Pre-Release product testing standards

The trouble with testing in cold temperatures is the slightest problem a hundred miles from no where can mean you freeze to death. Last winter I did a bit of testing myself, but only for about four hours on a drive out of the mountains onto the prairies - warm in the Rockies, (maybe - 20F), but...

Tata's LR' current Pre-Release product testing standards

Any winter testing that LR might do is either in Iceland or Norway/Sweden. Any reference to Northern Ontario is just marketing fluff. https://www.autotrader.ca/newsfeatures/20180222/cold-weather-testing-making-cars-that-survive-canadian-winters/ As to hot weather, Africa is pretty much out...

    Discovery 5 New Video!!!!

You are probably correct re Freelander 2 as I do not think any current production Land Rover product has a shiny front grill. I doubt any Kia could bunt a D3 or 4, (which the security guys still drive), and probably not even one of the new Full Fat frameless Range Rovers. The article says used...

    Discovery 5 New Video!!!!

What was Prince Philip driving that would roll his vehicle? Most reports say a Land Rover; others a Range Rover. From the pictures and video, it is hard for me to tell. My real question is how could a Kia take out any Land Rover? https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-46918039

LR4 vs LR3 Air Suspension Struts

I guess you are saying the design of the shock absorbers within could be different but the rubber of the bladder on both would act the same. I could accept that; I do not know much about suspension design, but something is different in the assemblies I would hazard to say.

LR4 vs LR3 Air Suspension Struts

My view is that the LR4 is tuned for pavement more so than what the LR3 ever was. I find that on what I call corduroy - that is lots of smaller regular recurring bumps, (including railroad tracks), that the LR3 is superior to most. It is certainly better than an F-150 or most pickups. Those...

LR4 vs LR3 Air Suspension Struts

I do not know about now, but when the LR4 first arrived in Australia, the blokes were changing out the factory LR4 air bag and shock assemblies for factory LR3 units. The spring rates or whatever were / are different at the time of introduction and the perception was that the LR3 units were...

LR3/4 lovers, fret not. Replacement maybe on the way.

Remind them the first owner of the LR3/4s were upscale Soccer Mom's. The current LR offerings look too close to the Minivans they were fleeing from. Now they buy the 4 door Jeep Unlimited or a 4Runner - go figure!

LR3/4 lovers, fret not. Replacement maybe on the way.

From what I can understand from reading the Motor Trend article is that this is not Land Rover/Tata, but a private group financed by some smart rich guy. Perhaps the plan is to design a reliable 4x4 that might have a market and then offer it to Tata to build under the Land Rover name. I...

Making a case for the D5

I wonder if any TATA bosses ever read any of these forums? If they saw how good some of the LR3/4's still look, do they wonder a bit about what they are now offering and relate it to perhaps why their share prices have tanked - or do they just think it should be Electric?

Making a case for the D5

The 3/4 has a real frame as do all capable vehicles so a load is no real problem. For Defenders, roof loading has been a historic norm - almost real tradition. I do not think I would try that on the D5 - new traditions I suppose? As to the new Defender, maybe it should be deferred a bit...

Making a case for the D5

Luxurious is pretty easy to do and everyone does above a certain price point. Capable is much more difficult, but not much good if all one sees is luxurious. This is why I think LR does not understand that with capable, the vehicle must also appear capable. The real Jeeps look capable; the G...

Making a case for the D5

Last year I went to a Land Rover Discovery day and got a ride up and down impossible slopes and angles. My take away was that the D5 is capable, but it does not look capable. It is a case of Form did not follow Function. I guess Land Rover cannot yet figure that a Land Rover should look like...

Making a case for the D5

I do not suppose anything we say has any merit, but I know money talks, (or the lack of it) - there is hope. My suggestion is they best just rename the new Defender to Sport ? and get the LR4 hood badge changed - they could save themselves or at least buy some time.

    Leaky driver side LR3

The two files within the link below that have the over 1,200 views relate to water leaking on the carpet thru what are called the air conditioner drains, but are also rain storm or car wash drains. There are two of them, one on each side of the transmission tunnel. The water is supposed to...

Does LR3 front cv axle diff seal need to be greased?

I do not know anything about greasing the front CV axle seals as in over 300,000km, have never done such, but I do know that the front differential vent should vent, or there will be differential oil leaking. The link below contains a few files, some of which have had over a thousand views...

    Another Defender hint?

Somehow I think we will all be disappointed. Of what use would a "mule" be if it looked like the real thing?

    Another Defender hint?

I hope the wheels are no larger than 18" with maybe 34" or 36" rubber. For me, a rough road vehicle should have lots of rubber between the rim and the surface. I will get a Jag if I want a race car.
