It's fixed! Had to use the 54mm gear w/o metal piece, current Bross p/n BGE24FBA. The other gear that includes the metal piece is 53mm diameter, looks almost identical, but the shape/pitch of the teeth seemd slightly different. The 53mm gear may have worked, but I didn't try it. The Bross...
OK. I've got 130k and it drives fine at all speeds. The clunk is intermittent and only noticeable at low speeds with fairly significant suspension movement, usually turning in/out of a parking lot across a dip for drainage. Been like that since we bought it with ~110k.
I have new Lemforder sitting around waiting for me to install them.
I tried replacing the sway bar end links to cure the intermittent "clunk" noise up front, but there was zero change. The old ones had no detectable play. Figured it was a long shot but worth a try before the unpleasant LCA...
The damper helps with strange vibrations at 2400-3000 RPM.
The damper won't help with a kick/boom situation, which sounds like valvebody/shifting to me?
:flybye:
LR of Merriam in Kansas sells the OE JLR filter for <$22, but with shipping you'd need to buy other stuff to make it worth it.

Same for LR Virginia Beach...
The AC Delco looks very similar to JLR, but not identical. I might use it eventually. I was more interested in finding an aftermarket filter when the JLR filter price was higher. The OE filters had been $30+ a few years ago, but now can be found for ~$22. The Delco is ~$16 on Amazon. Being the...
I've been sticking with the JLR filter. I bought the Delco for grins but it was not a repackaged OEM. I haven't used the Delco. Both are made in China.
The "OEM" tag shown at AutohausAZ is only an indicator of brand name, not COO. More aftermarket brands are changing suppliers/factories to different countries, so there is no guarantee the OEM part will be made in Europe. Some of the Genuine LR / JLR parts are made in China, for example the...
Our LR4 rear wiper stuck at mid-wipe and made the awful clicking noise as heard around 1:07 in the video linked below. Found this excellent post by @cj60, took my wiper motor apart and have the same damaged plastic gear.
However, I also noticed the wiper shaft was extremely difficult to move by...
That's a great point - hadn't thought of the snow/ice issue. I'll have to look into higher-output halogens for the fogs next!
Ryan, thanks for the reminder, I will buy another pair of the H9's to leave in the glove compartment! At least until I spring for the HID's.
:2in1:
The stock low beam bulbs both died and I finally did the H9 upgrade. I bought the Hella H9 "+100" bulbs from Amazon at the link below. I didn't have a Dremel handy to grind off the smaller of the two plastic tabs as shown in the video posted earlier in this thread.
Fortunately, the knife blade...
I always wondered how much difference there was between the SCV6 and the previous V8. Sounds like the 6 is noticeably wimpier despite the blower, although the 'tune' may help offset the difference. Our 2010 is fine most of the time but it sure would have been nice if LR had offered the SCV8...
I added the damper to my 2010 LR4 in summer 2020. Tapping the M10x1.5 hole did not go as smoothly as it should have, but the bolt torqued to spec, and otherwise worked fine. Adding the damper reduced the weird RPM-specific vibration by 80-90%.
My speculation is that if the computers think a larger, higher-capacity battery is installed (H8)... it may possibly have the alternator "shut off" for longer periods to save 0.00425 mpg, give or take. I hate the charging system, and to date nobody has figured out how to bypass the fuel-sipping...
I do the same thing. Don't forget to add shipping costs, which can be a deciding factor.
Be careful with aftermarket vendors like Atlanting British, make sure they are showing a Genuine Land Rover part when comparing prices. If the price seems too good to be true, it always is.
Merriam, Tampa...
Land Rover Tampa website died late 2021. I don't know if it moved, or if they are no longer selling online. I haven't called to ask.
This link used to work but now is DOA:

The local JLR dealer in Boise is showing a bit over 3 weeks out for the next available service appointment.
That's better than Mercedes of Boise, which was 4 weeks out back in July, bumped to 8 weeks out in Sept/Oct, and currently is showing 4 months out. That's right, next available MB...
I was wondering the same thing... what else should be replaced at the same time? Level sending unit perhaps? I've always had some fuel gauge weirdness despite some work at the dealer by the PO.
The bigger question is... if you just had a new version of the old/defective part installed, doesn't it still need the new/improved part installed? I haven't seen any confirmation either way.
:hmmmm:
Have you checked both the Land Rover factory manual, and also the Jaguar factory manuals? I only have the LR4 manual, I don't know if the Jag version is any better.
Stretch bolts are not always a single-use item. Some Mercedes engines with stretch bolts have a length specification, and if the old bolts are not stretched beyond spec, they can be re-used. Sample below from the FSM.
I don't know if the JLR bolts are similar, but it's a decent possibility. In...
