    Coolant Issue driving me crazy

I find the factory coolant hard to see even with a UV inspection light. Adding leak detection dye won't hurt anything except confuse the next guy as to what flavor you put in there.

    Window Rattled & Dislodged

I think I'll order the regulator (LR063670) and have it sent express to the next stop. Then if I need it, I have it. I'll also get some auto glass tape sent. Triage plan is to just not use the window unless necessary. If it fails I should be able to tape it in the up position. I did bring a...

    Window Rattled & Dislodged

A bit over 3000 miles into my adventure/vacation I was riding around on whatever gravel roads I could find around Moran, WY looking for wildlife in the drizzle I had my first real mishap. The window fell out of the lift mechanism. I heard a rattle in the door when I got out parked off...

    Auxillary Fuel Tank

Short Term Review So I've done 2500 miles from Massachusetts to Utah with the auxiliary tank and I have to say it is pretty darn good. When you're getting 16mpg, being able to go over 600 miles between stations is wonderful. My only complaint is that it seems like the name plate capacity is...

What Did You Do To Your LR Today?

Mine sat on the bench for a few months.

    Pulsing while steering

Siphoned out the power steering fluid at least a half dozen times and it is good.

    Showoff Your LR4

Road trip begins tomorrow from Longfellow's Wayside Inn to SLC Airport with stops at the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Neeley Distillery in KY, ***** Leagues Baseball Museum and Kauffman Stadium in KC, and Coors Field. With the auxiliary tank I'll be able to easily go over 700 miles between fill...

2011 LR4 Coolant -Leak From RH Lower corner of front cover to Engine block.

Dealership is only going to sell you another plastic one. This is one of those rare instances with the unknown no-name brand from the jungle website or eBay is actually a better bet. Should only be around $10.

    Blown Engine 2011 w/126K miles

Being a driveway mechanic, twice a year for me. Once in the spring, again in the fall. Storytime As a young man I bought my first truck brand new off the lot. Gave it an oil change at 1,000 miles and some gorilla had put the oil filter on. After driving a screwdriver through it, I was...

2011 LR4 Coolant -Leak From RH Lower corner of front cover to Engine block.

Order a brass version of eBay it Amazon of LR049990. You'll lose a bit of coolant changing it, but not a lot. I used a pair of vice grips as a hemostat on the skinny hose. The push-to-connect will come apart with a firm pull. You'll want to fashion a stubby pick that only has about an...

    Replacing spare tire jack?

At access height the tallboy jack is a little too tall. At normal height, it fits under the frame rail just fine. It also fits where the scissor jack normally goes with the jacking handles. The plate and other accessories don't fit in that cubby though.

2011 LR4 Coolant -Leak From RH Lower corner of front cover to Engine block.

I could have been clearer. You can hardly see any of the cooling system that fails with the plenum in place. If you remove the plenum you can get a better look at the various coolant pipes and hoses.

    Pulsing while steering

Control arms were all rebuilt a year ago. I checked for play in the front wheels at 3 & 9 and 12 & 6, everything was nice and tight. I'll swap the fluid and report back.

My money is on Uncle Rodney came knocking, it'll happen. JLR will sell you a remanufactured engine for a decent price.

You can send me a set of 18" LR3 alloys and I'll let you know. ;)

    Pulsing while steering

Effort to turn is very low / normal. I should have mentioned that. It just feels like the hydraulic feedback is too high.

    Pulsing while steering

After a couple of tire rebalances and an alignment I don't have any vibration at speed (70mph) anymore. The shop did leave the steering wheel ever so slightly off 12 o'clock though. One of those things I'd like them to make right, but not at the expense of my time or the risk of them making...

2011 LR4 Coolant -Leak From RH Lower corner of front cover to Engine block.

Shouldn't be any coolant coming from the timing chain cover, only oil. I'd add some coolant dye, I find the JLR pink coolant hard to see. I'd bet that the source is higher up on the motor. Remove the intake plenum and take a look.

Coolant Crossover Pipe Repair 5.0 V8

I like how the picture still shows plastic parts and it probably still has the plastic lr049990 piece.

Best LR4 Brakes for Heavy vehicle + towing.

I wanted to run 18" steelies without spacers or the wheels costing a fortune (LR143917). LR3 V8 caliper bracket + LR3 V8 rotors + LR4 calipers all bolt up no problem.

2011 LR4 Coolant -Leak From RH Lower corner of front cover to Engine block.

A picture would really help clarify things. Most common coolant leaks are going to be the front and back plastic pipes and lr049990 (pictured).

EBC generally has good stuff. I've modified my setup to run LR3 rotors and the stock LR4 calipers.

    Beware ye plastic sill covers!

I'm generally in favor of running boards and rock sliders with regards to rust. Pickups that have the worst rust tend to be without. I used 2.5" stainless washers and plenty of blue loctite when I put my sliders on. I also drilled through the sill guards too so they're still there. I've...

    Beware ye plastic sill covers!

Rust-Oleum 7769830 I go through a decent amount of this stuff every time I'm underneath. Wire brush what I can, hose it down with brake cleaner, hit it with the rusty metal primer. There might be better rust converter/neutralizer out there, but this one is low effort and quick. Other ones...
