How To - DIY - 2016 LR4 - F/R Crossover Pipes, Water Pump, Thermostat, Coolant, Supercharger Oil, Supercharger Coupling

Quick diagnostic look see for small leaks. Works for both 2013 and 2016 Remove appearance cover. Get flashlight, even better get UV flashlight If wet or UV active (assuming you run Rover coolant), then it's leaking. It's easier if you wait until it's dark, at least inside the engine...

Current Brake Pad and Rotor Recommendations?

So, I am older than dirt, but I have never replaced brake fluid, I know, I know.... So for the 2016. Your favorite bleeding tool? Is there anything special that I need the IID tool for (I am thinking ABS valves) or is this just a straight forward flush and done. Also, decided to upgrade...

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

2016, 60K miles. OK, so minor SC coupler spring damage to the main shaft, this is mainly cosmetic, but I can feel a very small bit of wear. Do you think this will be out of balance enough to require replacing, or just put it back together... The new coupler does not touch the main shaft.

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

2016 LR4, 60K miles I am told that the fill volume for this is 151mL, but I recovered only 84mL. No evidence of leaks and yes, I am sure I got it all out - syringe and tubing and moving SC to make sure I was getting it from all the corners of the gearbox. New oil has no appreciable odor, used...

    Aluminum crossovers exist now! (maybe)

I spoke to Phillip at PalmBeach Rover Parts and he told me that the 3 part design in aluminum was an old Rover design that had been changed out to the new plastic 2 piece design and that when older vehicles come in they are updated to the new plastic parts. He did not have a good explanation of...

    Aluminum crossovers exist now! (maybe)

Well, I drove over to EuroAMP and I did not return with the parts. I looked at two sets of top/bottom front crossovers for the 2016. This is my opinion... I may be way too picky, but I was not pleased with the quality of the casting or the finish on the mating surfaces. The female interior...

    Aluminum crossovers exist now! (maybe)

I did not know that the "new" design was 2-piece and that the "old" design was 3-piece. Given that, I am now leaning toward the 2-piece. Anyway, that vendor for the 2-piece setup is here in Houston, about 45 minutes away from me across town (on a good day). They are the originators of the...

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

Thanks! Glad I did not touch that! A quick look around and overlooking the drain plug again, but there it is... It's a 3/16 allen wrench. I am also doing the coupler, so any remaining oil will come out when I take off the snout.

    Aluminum crossovers exist now! (maybe)

I spent some time looking at these and I actually see two different versions, from different sellers on E-Bay. One version looks to be an exact match for the new style parts I have in my garage. The upper fits down into the lower, with one o-ring, there are two piece parts. These parts, if the...

    Aluminum crossovers exist now! (maybe)

Oh sure! the 2016 is totally apart, new plastic crossovers waiting to be installed. Do I become the first?? These look exactly like the new design plastic ones.. I need to ponder....

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

Coolant Leak 2016 at 60K miles. It was just a seep, and I never smelled coolant. Lower Front Crossover, passenger side.

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

OK, on that supercharger. It's on the bench. This is not what I was expecting, but is this little dinky plug the drain plug?? Please advise.. If it is I can tell you that that is a 3mm allen wrench.

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

FINALLY. The electrical connector is off, but it is NOT pressing on two sides at the same time. Press on the "outside/bottom" end at the two parallel bits. This should lever up the end on the "inside" end of the connector, but that was not working. So take a paint can opener and pry up on the...

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

Awesome, THANKS to you both!!! Great photo, thanks for the extra work!! I did not think to press on BOTH sides of that connector. Hopefully it works! My opinion is that they design these things on purpose to make sure that only dealerships ever work on these vehicles. From memory, this is...

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

Ordered the coupler and red RTV last night. It's going slowly, but surely. SO... Electrical connector on the back(firewall) drivers side of the air intake/supercharger. How the ^&*^& does this come apart?? And as much as I love you all, if anyone says just squeeze and pull, I will hunt you...

2016 LR4 Coolant Crossover, Water Pump, Thermostat Replacement

SC Questions.. (I posted a question to superchargersonline about 3 weeks ago - no response yet.) Sounds like standard RTV, used cautiously is the gasket material - any other strong opinions? Any info on the torque specification of the snout bolts and a torque order?

Current Brake Pad and Rotor Recommendations?

Rotors could go a while yet, certainly another set of pads. Rover recommends changing rotors every other set of pads (overkill - yes), but since this one lives so far away, it's good piece of mind just doing the replacement... I have never used ceramic pads, do they tend to squeek? (I don't...

Current Brake Pad and Rotor Recommendations?

So, the 2016 (which we purchased used 10K ago) has very little pad left in the rear, but plenty left in front. Based on dust levels these must be OEM pads, and they look like OEM rotors. It's at 60K miles so I will replace pads and rotors on the rear, maybe the fronts as well, but still...

Help identifying 14-16 part (PCV hose) I broke while doing rear crossover.

If only it were that easy! That's what I am doing, but it's not happening - so far... Is there a specialty pliers for this??

Help identifying 14-16 part (PCV hose) I broke while doing rear crossover.

OK, I am not a newbie, but dang! How exactly does this come apart?? Intercooler hard plastic coolant pipes, on top, 2 on each side. Duh... Thanks!
