Solution to Engine Misfire =>1996 Disco's
Use two 6" 3/8" extensions, a ratchet, and a 3/16" Allen driver to get to it. It's super-easy to DIY. Just make sure the square drive in the VSS fits into the square socket on the transfer case. -

Silly D1 Question RE: Cigar Lighter
So, I am increasingly frustrated with the cigar lighter outlet in my 96 D1. As many of you know, or have discovered, the diameter of cigar lighters in Britain is apparently a smidge larger than in the US. My question: Has anyone simply cut-and-spliced a "US Issue" 12V outlet into that spot... -
The Seafoam Picture and Instruction Thread
It's the hose that (D1) runs from the top of the driver's side valve cover to the intake plenum. Hose is about 3/4" diameter, and about 4" long. Remove end that attaches to valve cover, rotate around so it curves to face up, and pour slowly in. -

I agree. I certainly would not advise anyone to disable the ABS for a multitude of reasons. My post was intended to reflect my personal experience, which is based in part on disabling the ABS. -
Noise upon accel, not in N or Park
I discovered, in the fall, that running Seafoam through the intake results in a good test for the presence of exhaust leaks. There will be white smoke coming out of the engine compartment, and traceable back to bad gaskets, if you have exhaust issues. Plus, the Seafoam is good for the engine... -
Power loss
Joey's right (took me forever to post again on this) -- 1 coil per 2 cylinders. And disconnect that negative terminal from the battery, because you will fly quite a distance when you receive enough amps and volts. :biggrin: -

Before I disconnected the ABS from my 96 Disco, it made the same kind of noise. The pump is really loud in that system, but unless you're losing braking ability there's nothing wrong. The first car I drove with ABS was a 1991 Honda Accord, which made the Rover seem quiet. As long as it's... -

1 coil that fires 2 cylinders....I'm not sure that make sense. I'm going outside to shovel snow, will look at my coil pack and see if that jives. I thought that the GEMS coil pack on the 1996-1999 D1's had one coil per cylinder....hmmmm -

Drive it off, and use Seafoam or something similar to flush all the junk out of the valves. -

I think this is correct to assume, so long as we are talking about the shift lever, and not the CDL itself. Your center diff may lock, but your lever will only move back and forth and not in an H pattern. It is not connected to any control if you don't have a CDL lever that moves in an... -

Problems With the LR3
Rovers have a ZF gearbox, and so do many Jaguars. There are problems with these gearboxes (although no more than with Chrysler or Chevy or Ford), and this site explores some of those issues. -
Stuttering for 20 seconds after decelerating
VSS is located between the transmission pan and transfercase, on the passenger side of the vehicle (NAS). Removal is easy, with a 3/16 hex drive and a ratchet with extensions. There is a square drive that has to properly refitted for the replacement to function correctly. -

Stopping the autolock on Disco I
Bad move. Your alarm will still interpret the (physically) unlocked doors as locked, and the alarm will go off when one of those doors is opened. Unless you remove the sensors, which IIRC will affect the ignition. Just deal with this little "quirk" of British Engineering...
