Anybody here trade an MDX or Pilot for an LR3?

I highly doubt the LR3 has more "street cred" than a Range Rover, seeing as the LR3 is in its first two years of production, versus about 30 for the Rangie. Most people call my Discovery, and in all honesty most LR3's, Freelanders, etc. a "Range Rover" -- THAT is street cred.

Recently acquired Disco, crank but no start

Also try bypassing the Inertia Switch. It's on the firewall on the passenger side, and has a plunger-style button on top covered in rubber/plastic. There are two wires that run into it with a wiring harness -- jump those together and see if it'll run. Then get a new part, so the engine...

need the name of an accessory?

He drove a D2, and the PullPal assisted him because there were no trees. It was amazing to watch (1) How far he made it with a stock-ish Disco (it had mud tires and a winch) and (2) just how stuck he got when he did get stuck.

ROFL  (My wife might get pissed though)

    The LR3 Wave

That used to be pretty common among Rover drivers, and Jeepers do the same thing. It is nice, but I hate getting "the look" from some soccer mom in a spiffy D2 when my battered and dented D1 drives by and I wave... Wave on, I'll wave back! :biggin:

    Cold Idle issues and more

EDIT: Beat me to it  It's the opposite. Disconnect at the crankcase end and let the fluid get sucked into the plenum. Do it slowly so the motor doesn't die on you. Let it sit for a while and enjoy the smokescreen! Try that and let us know if you're still having problems.

pic request d2 on hurricanes w/265/60/18 tires...

If the new trucks are anything like, ummmmm, 1955 - 1999 Rovers, there aren't many aftermarket rims because Rover uses a rather rare bolt pattern. Which, by the way, is 5 on 6.5" for everything up to a D2. For d2's it's 5x120mm (I think)

    Cold Idle issues and more

Those are classic IAC a/k/a Stepper Motor symptoms. Brake cleaner is fine. The Stepper has a wiring harness attached to it, you should disconnect that, and then use a 5.5mm nut driver to remove the little bolt that holds it into place. What is highlighted in post 12 of this thread is the...

VSS - speed sensor wire FOR gps system.

As crappy as the VSS (and electrical system in general) is on Disco 1s, I'm not sure I'd try to tie anything into that part. Why not run an antenna and get the vehicle speed from the satellite? Guess I'm not sure why you're trying something complicated when a simple solution is...

    Land Rover Parts question....

Axles are different than CVs, too. CVs on Discos are the weak point from the factory floor. It's not that they are fragile, of course -- just don't want to flog them.

    Headed towards a 95 RR-LWB

 No problem! Those rear light guards are next-to-worthless too, and are lookin' a little shaky. You could POR and rattle-can paint those, and probably make a little money by selling them on EBay :)

    Headed towards a 95 RR-LWB

That stupid back gate -- it's the bane of every RRC I think! Lookin' pretty good from what I could see. Looks like it has the Rover leaks from what the undercarriage shots show. Nothing to worry about unless he backs it up and reveals a big black stain on the ground!

    Headed towards a 95 RR-LWB

That is in my top five Rovers. 95 LWB, earlier 90s SWB, SIIa 109", Lightweight, and Defender 110 (a guy can dream) Those are nice trucks, if you have one that was taken care of. It's still the 3.9 V8, and you know all about the EAS issue. My 96 Disco was not 11 when I bought it...

    Alternative Tire Size

Those tires, according to my rough math, are about the same height as stock, they're just 20mm wider. You _might_ have some rubbing on the radius arms at full turn but there shouldn't be rubbing anywhere else.
