Calico Ghost Town - Doran Loop trail

You might want to have a few more trails under your belt and some good armor before you attempt this one! I was fortunate to have Nathan Woods as a spotter the whole way. It was a difficult one indeed!

    It feels like Christmas

Be sure to take it out on the trail first thing or risk getting coal in you stocking.

    Recovery Points?

Yes to taking it off before getting on the trail. No to the strap damage unless you do something careless.

Buying New Tires - LR3 - Need Advice

I'll second that! Use of the search function is best.

    Recovery Points?

Remove plastic panel under front bumper for front recovery point. One turn on a few plastic screws is all it takes. You can also do a search on this forum, I believe this has been covered pretty well.

    Changing Out Rims for Off-Roading

This would be good advice if BFG made an MT to fit the LR3. I am very interested in the KM2's.

    Question Regarding Sump Guards

I agree, wheel first, then modify according to your experiences on the trail.

    Hi-Country out of biz?

That's a bummer. They did have a pretty good line-up of LR3 products. Hope they can re-organize and re-surface.

    Fuel Tank Skid

I'm no expert David, but there aren't many of my mods anyway that have just slid on and bolted down easy-peasy. It seemed there was always some kind of adjustment that had to be made to accomplish a fit.

    Fuel Tank Skid

The holes in the tranfer case skid did not line up properly so we had to drill new holes in order to fit. So the T-case skid did need a slight modification as opposed to the tank skid.

    Two Quick Questions

I ran Toyo Open Country ATs 285/60-18 and they were pretty good to me. The sidewalls are "reinforced" and it's a good looking tire. I switched to the BFG's because they stand up to the jagged rocks more so than the Toyo's.

    Two Quick Questions

Chesapeake, I use to run a C load tire and they did OK for the most part. Since then I have moved on to the BFG's. It is my opinion that if you run trails with a lot of sharp rocks & ledges you tend to pinch your sidewalls more and the E load is the way to go. If the trails you run tend to be...

    Skid Plate-Slider question . . .

I have run Toyo Open Country A/Ts. Good tire, easy to balance. Good on road and good for moderate offroading.

Tire chains and 265/65 r18 tires

Heck, I was afraid to run the Ruds on the the stock 255/60's. Very little room.

Tire chains and 265/65 r18 tires

Learth, there are situations where the California Highway Patrol will not let you proceed without chains. Three years ago I ecountered this on the way to a ski trip up to Mammoth. I'm not an expert on driving in the snow by any stretch (from San Diego) but I do know on an Iced up road that...

    More Tire Advice

Shaved 11mm off the rods. I have done 2 alignments since then. Once when I got the BFG,s and once here just recently. I have seen guys that shaved 12-14mm off, and in my opinion this is too much because it causes tires to "toe in" while in new ride height which causes poor tire wear.

    More Tire Advice

I have run them full time for about a year now. No problems, no bowing in or uneven tire wear, no suspension faults.

    Broke my first part... replacement?

Yep, people get those ripped off all the time. I didn't mess with replacing mine. If you are going to continue to do moderate to advanced trails, leaving them off might be your call as well. Otherwise I think you have to get the exhaust shields from the dealer.
