Timing chain question: proactive or wait?
If your mechanic is trustworthy, ask him. You'd hear a noise if it needed the work. You can also poke your finger in the oil fill hole and if you can move the chain with your finger its loose. Yeah, was just posting about an O-ring discovery and that they don't need lube (wasn't sure lol) and they can lose their elasticity over time which causes them to fail. So it might be a combination of the powder residue and O-Rings getting long in the tooth.- powershift

The Brits are more trusting? Mine doesn't lock either and haven't thought about it until now. But every other modern vehicle I've owned had a release from the inside, much like the hood or hatch releases. I worry more about the latch mechanism breaking and not gaining access than theft.- powershift

The problem with the rust is the metal and treatment before assembly. They were once hand assembled. But when it starts to rust in a given spot, the whole panel section needs to be replaced because the rust comes back. According to wikipedia, its the BV58 engine that is also in the BMW M3 with 523 HP and 479 lb⋅ft. For the Grenadier, they detune the engine before installation.
