LR4 Transmission Calibration (adaption clearing) after service

FWIW I was told by the transmission shop who rebuilt my ZF, and who seem to know a lot about that tranny in particular, that it wasn't necessary. The computer would adapt to the new values within about 500 miles. This was also with the Zip Kit newly installed. They told me to treat it a little...

    Persistent misfire under load only

Hard to interpret the numbers without RPMs, etc. My basic understanding is that if you have a vacuum leak, your STFT should drop as you raise RPM and the proportion of leak to metered air reduces. So maybe try that? Otherwise I wonder if maybe the O2 sensors are sending the wrong data?

    Persistent misfire under load only

If the fix didn't actually fix it and made the leak worse? Or if the previous leak somehow made an existing condition (rich mixture?) more tolerable on that bank? Or if the fix caused a barely-functional PCV valve to start malfunctioning? IDK

    Persistent misfire under load only

“Codes” means when you pull a code, such as P0304, even with the GAP tool, the code itself is pointing to the appropriately-numbered cylinder. The GAP tool is just “reading the code” straight off the computer, not trying to interpret it. So P0304 would be #4, driver’s side front. “GAP” on the...

    Persistent misfire under load only

Here is how at least my GAP tool denotes the cylinders, compared to how the engine codes denote them (true cylinder numbering).

    Persistent misfire under load only

I think I know what you mean, but I suspect you’re partially wrong. Witness my posts earlier (I think in this same thread) where I point out that it gives me information about the wrong cylinder. So yes, it may be accurate but wrong. As long as you know how to take that into account as you...

    Persistent misfire under load only

Sorry for your troubles. Why does your diagnostic tool seem to think it’s looking at a diesel engine? I’m not sure how trustworthy are the readings you’re getting.

Crazy to consider new engine in a 2016 LR4?

It's a test that looks the other way around from how you're thinking about it: it looks for exhaust gas dissolved in the coolant, which should never occur. It's a chemical dye that reacts to certain hydrocarbons by changing color, IIRC. Common test.

    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

Is it the case that warped heads (which presumably are what cause the head gasket leaks, and not actual cracks in the heads)...is it true that warped heads on these engines are not recoverable? It seems odd to me that a relatively brief engine overheat would warp things so badly that you just...

Rear Tire Carrier - Any Regrets in Daily Life?

Yes. But I don’t rely on them to maintain the weight once hoisted. Straps handle that.

    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

Probably, or hydrolocked on startup. When you have coolant in the cylinders burning, you'll know it. White smoke (doesn't dissipate like steam does) that smells kind of sweet. I suppose another possible escape path (less likely) that would avoid the white smoke is into the oil reservoir. There...

Front and Rear (Lower) Control Arm Guards

I’ve beaten my control arms up pretty badly. The seem fine.

    Persistent misfire under load only

Followup to this thread: the issue returned. And it had followed the coil, which I had put in Cylinder 4 this time, and made sure the connector was seated. So it's a coil with an intermittent problem. It DOES happen.

Fuel Related Issue at Start Up

First of all, “crowbar wrapped in a sock” sounds like a m u r d e r weapon. Pics or it didn’t happen. ;) Second, any idea how the timing got off so far?

    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

What I remember from doing my own procedure was that the hose with the thermostat is amazingly complex and hard to reach to work on it in situ. If I hadn’t first pressure tested the system, I would not have found that one of the clamps I had put on wasn’t seated properly. Vacuum fill wouldn’t...

Another weird post-repair issue/question: door light

Mystery solved! I don’t have those options. Thanks as always, @Rover Range

Another weird post-repair issue/question: door light

OK, NVM about the puddle light. Apparently the control module that works on that wants to see a bulb plugged into that connector before the main battery is reconnected, or else it just decides not to shunt power in that direction. But my question about that connector still stands: what’s it for?

Another weird post-repair issue/question: door light

Hi, all, So I took apart the driver’s door to replace the cable that connects the emergency lock to the rest of the mechanism. Got everything back together, I think. At least it all seems to work as intended, except… Except the puddle light. On only that specific door. Bulb is good, I checked...

    Fan and lean codes

When I smoke tested mine (another issue, another thread), I looked to make sure that it was open a bit, and indeed it looked like I’d expect it to look: a millimeter or so of clearance there where it had stopped. I tried to open it a bit more, but I would have been fighting and possibly damaging...

Do you have to? The plate should still be partly open at idle, no?

Smoke test, P0170 code and PCV

I hope, but I doubt it; the fuel trim code has been happening on long trips long before the misfire started. Nobody knows whether it’s normal for some smoke to escape from the PCV when the intake is pressurized to 1psi?

    Coolant in transmission cooler?

Possible if the heat exchanger split or developed a leak. Do you have any kind of feel for how long you’ve been driving it in that condition? If it were me, after figuring out where the leak occurred and fixing it (e.g. replacing the exchanger), I’d look for shops that could do a genuine flush...
