    Disco Fixed?!?!?!?!?! Possibly

wow, the 15mpg highway thing is scary enough to me. I've gone 300 miles, 95% highway, and still have 1/4 tank left. And my cruise control isn't even working...gotta go check those vacuum hoses soon. Good deal on the fix. I think LR of Thousand Oaks doesn't try to rape you if you let them...

    Fuel Mileage Survey: Discovery

91-92 octane gas. 275-300 miles on a tank when driving in the city. 350-400 miles driving conservatively on the highway. No joke, hit 400 miles more than once on a tank.

    Wheel bearing replacement question

Yeah, so... hub is off vehicle. Hub and disc brake will not separate. Is the separation of the hub and disc usually difficult? Any tricks to separating them? All bolts are removed, yes. Bearings look fine, hmmm. Not good. I expect this leaves only the CV joint to be faulty. That's...

    Wheel bearing replacement question

Front left wheel bearing, 97 D1. Heard slight clicking noises some time ago, only when wheel is at or near full lock. Recently the noise has become much worse. I believe it is the wheel bearing. It's possible the CV is going bad too, right? I have the bearing kit and was going to replace...

    Premium Gas?

It does mix. The octane rating is a rating based on the ratio of octanol to heptanol in the fuel. Octanol is a molecule that resists detonation/combustion, while heptanol does not resist detonation/combustion. More octanol = more detonation resistance = higher octane rating. Like...

'97 D1 "check eng", misfire codes, runs like crap

oh, um... Maybe I should have that 'rover guru' thingy taken off of my name. I just hope that new VSS works, or I will be feeling bad. There are other things that could cause that problem, I am sure. In any case, good luck.

'97 D1 "check eng", misfire codes, runs like crap

Sounds like possibly the VSS, vehicle speed sensor. If it is very intermittent, and continuously intermittent at near highway speeds, that's a good bet. Just a suggestion, others will hopefully chime in as well.

    Radio Codes

That can't be right, it sounds too simple. ;)

    Fuel Grade?

Like California, $2.49 for premium. I was near Bakersfield today, and paid $2.99. Drove 65 mph on the way home. ;)

Replacement rear view mirror for D1

The base of the mirror is removed from the windshield by tapping it parallel to the glass in the direction of the hood (from the roof). It's very simple. May or may not be a plug in the wiring. If not, just splice the wires and voila poof and stuff. I have a 1997 as well.

grumble/ grinding noise after let off the gass

Yes. They can chirp whether on gas or not, depending on the type of wear. That's a likely cause. Any repair shop can handle that. If you take off the driveline and take it to a driveline shop they should be able to hook you up right, and cheaply.

    Knocking sounds--suspension?

I'm sure you are right. I've been waiting to possibly do the whole shocks/springs/tires/lift thing all at once when the tires are needing replaced. They seem to work good, though, strange. How silly would a 3" lift look with stock tires for a while? ;) Or...could I just get new shocks...

    Knocking sounds--suspension?

I suppose it's possible it's the exhaust. I thought the hangers were all pretty tight, but will check it again. Lugs are tight, or the wheel would've fallen off already. It's been doing this for a long time now. ;) No lift yet. Possibly the shocks are toast. I believe they're the...

    Knocking sounds--suspension?

Okay, so I have a knock coming from something in the suspension I think. It is really more than a slight knock. Anytime I hit the speed bumps at my work (NOT THE MALL THANK YOU VERY MUCH) at a slow speed and give my suspension time to compress any small amount and rebound normally there is a...

    New keys and door lock

I think you can use a chisel and hammer on the bolts just to get them started.

BG44K, and other additives?? how to best use?

I don't think that is the kind of stuff you want on the MAF. Unless it will evaporate cleanly and completely. Probably best to use it downstream of the MAF, and clean the MAF with something better suited for electronics. I think by intake, they mean intake, butterfly valvey thing, plenum...

    New keys and door lock

I know one thing only about your question. If it is a D1, the controller and receiver for the keyless entry is not in the key ignition. I replaced mine. The bolts you are talking about have a piece on top of them that breaks off when they are at a certain torque. Not sure why they are made...

    Service Engine Soon

www.obd2.com With this OBDII reader, you download the software from this site, purchase the activation code and any connections you need to hook it up to your vehicle, and you are ready. Just need a laptop to run the program in the car, or a garage with a computer nearby. It's pretty easy...

    Disco 2 Dummy lights on

Any decent OBDII reader will give the same codes. For free, you can have the codes read at Kragen/Checker/many auto parts places. I don't know about them resetting the codes, but they will read them for you. Dealer will charge minimum one hour of labor just to read the codes. Stay away.

    Reverse "clank" noise

I'm just a n00b Disco owner, but from what I've read, that clunk is very common. Mine does it, same symptoms. Notice if you pause with the gear selector in neutral for a second or two before shifting to reverse, no clunk. So there's a little slop in the drivetrain, no biggie. ;)

    ATF TO CLEAN VALVESS?????? misfires....

Unlikely the VSS. I don't think you get misfire codes when the VSS lets go. Other than that, I can't offer much...except advice on how to pull the heads. ;) Some of those cleaners are definitely worth a shot.

    Front pinion bearing R&R

Thanks Sergei The third member doesn't have to be pulled to replace the pinion bearing, does it? I'm not hearing the growling you spoke of, but there is some vibration that I've just begun to notice. To pull the 3rd, you have to pull the axle shafts, dontcha? ewww, don't really want to do...

    Front pinion bearing R&R

Piece of cake, right? DIY job? Well, something in the front diff is slopping around a bit too much. I had someone sit in the car and put the car from R to D and back again a few times. There is a lot of slop in there. It looked like the pinion bearing from the play I could...
