Tolerances for LR3 tread depth variances

3/32 is not much, just roll with it IMHO - it's within quattro spec, for example.

The rust on the Jeep is likely from snow belt exposure, it's an off-lease turn-in and the finance companies ship them all over to realize best pricing at wholesale auctions. A carfax should be free from dealer, it'll confirm where initially driven. Surface rust is no issue, cars here in...

GY are the svck, as the younger set posts it. Really bad, but it is what it is and you'll replace later. Full size or temp spare (most likely)? BTW, any car can be cleaned up pretty if done right, so you're right to inspect.

Is it CPO? Get an INDEPENDENT inspection by a local, reputable, high end import body shop to tell you the extent of the damage, that is if you lack the expertise and confidence to discover it yourself. The selling dealer will lie to you about everything, including minor body damage that they...

IMHO, LR4 reveal won't change used LR3 market. $4 gas, yes. Cheap LR4 leases would do it ($500), but there's no more cheap money as LR found in '06. LR3 prices are up from last year. For under 20, he's looking at 05 retail. Even 06 SE is tight at 20 these days. I agree, 06 would be better...

yes, ford sells for other marques, there's an online discounter. HSE has more features, same ride and mechanicals. CPO is now only 1 year and limited coverage, not worth 1400 when 3000 gets 3 years better coverage. Remember LR3 had 4/50 factory coverage w/ free maint during that period, so...

    Driver Seat Lumbar

There's an aftermarket kit for power, but it's not an upgrade. It goes where there is nothing, no lumbar, not where there is power. If you have OEM LR manual (or power) from factory and you need more support then you add padding. If you have nothing, no lumbar from factory, you either add...

    Driver Seat Lumbar

A good automotive upholstery shop can add or subtract padding from places, including lumbar areas or headrests. This effectively changes the range of your adjustment. I suggest you locate the closest Manheim or Adesa auction site, then ask for a lead. Alternatively, ask a large car dealer for...

    Driver Seat Lumbar

Also was no adjustment of any sort in my former HSE 2006. I added a power OEM style unit from a Tier 1 vendor's retail distributor. LR added back power lumber in 07, I think. FWIW and for the record, very nice, two heat, tush and back, OEM grade, aftermarket seat heaters also exist from...

Oil change - Dealer vs. Jiffy Lube

Quick lube places don't have the right filter, they make one work and it's as cheap as they can buy for your $25 fee. Your car costs big money new, it deserves better care from more than a lube monkey who looks under Camrys all day and might just a rubber plug to stop up your oil drain if they...

    Buying a LR3 or maybe a LR2

bluedog18 Did you see this thread? http://www.landroverworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15593 You don't need to go to TX. Manheim PA or Detroit MI offer LR finance off lease sales. No one gets "first dibs" perhaps other than franchised LR dealers, all others buy at the auctions either in...

    Buying a LR3 or maybe a LR2

I used to think the LR2 was a real looker and top of the class. Now, I state emphatically that both the Audi Q5 and the LR2's former corporate cousin Volvo V60 beat the style socks off of the LR2. Man, those are two gorgeous crossover vehicles with fabulous interiors (particularly the...

    Windshield wiper replacement...

I actually sourced some higher end style from Target, maybe Michelin branded? Either way, the brand is not the maker (private label by a wiper company), and they worked great. Tire Rack has a BOGO offer on some blades, too. Valeo Ultimate.

    Buying a LR3 or maybe a LR2

Winter we averaged 13-14 city only, summer +1. Hwy 17 or up, don't recall 20 ever. Right tires wear better. My Toyo HT version in 19" were wearing beautifully and were good on-road compromise tires for our family truck.

    Totally OT: need a '01 325i?

S.E. MI car engineer buddy selling wife's original owner 01 BMW 325i, compulsively maintained with OEM parts, in surprisingly excellent shape for its age and mileage. Drives tight, no rattles. No wavy sides, shiny inside and out and real a good looker. Good, safe car for college-bound...

Brothers and sisters, we no longer own the LR3 as of earlier last month. It's a great vehicle that we truly miss quite a bit, but that we needed to move past at this point. If the winter tires on dedicated rims that I'm already setting up for the Odyssey fail to impress Mrs. Mustbeaudi...

    Values UP

WHOLESALE range is vast, but prices are UP. Lower miles mean more moolah, but even ones with over 50000 miles (no warranty) still fetched $19-22! Detroit's most recent three were very low miles cars, got $26-$28! Others fell in the middle of this range, 23XXX to 26. You should have bought...

    disc brake repair/replacement??

Yah, yah. This guy's daughter's brake rotors either need replacement (worn too thin for spec (measure them or have your tech do so), out of round (pulse, etc.), whatever), or they don't and can be reused. None of us including him know this yet. Pads are easy DIY, rotors just add more money...

    disc brake repair/replacement??

Even if you can't or won't DIY, a Rover/LR3/ whatever brake job is no mystery and any good, trusted independent can swap on new pads for you. Buy new good ones, save hundreds on labor. Rotors only bad if close to or below spec on thickness or are out of round. Once doing pads, rotors don't...
