I’ll take a picture of the used stp filter on next oil change. It’s good quality and can’t tell the difference between oe and stp. They could even be manufactured in the same facility the way some of these companies roll...
this is a good point. I might ask the service manager for your diagnostic fee back...seeing as though they were the last to touch the thing and it wasn’t seated properly. Never hurts to ask...
Yes, it’s possible that just the desiccant is shot. Not a hard job. Over time it breaks down. Otherwise you may be looking at a new compressor.
it’s also possible with corrosion in Minnesota winter that your reservoir has developed a slow leak. May be worth looking at the reservoir that sits...
Whelp, there you go! Or there’s a saboteur afoot! Glad you found the issue and it was a simple fix. Sometimes the quickest way with these things is not a straight line.
hope this gets you fixed up. I’m surprised you had a failure with your amk so quickly but glad you found one that wasn’t outlandish! I’m assuming Miami British is who you got it from? I’ve seen great value on oe parts from them. I got a Denso alternator for $400 when the dealer wanted $1000...
might be worth ordering a junk amk off amazon. I ordered one and it functioned fine but wasn’t my issue (it was a stuck valve). They are relatively cheap and this one was plug and play
check your pcv valve? Those tend to wear, creating a vacuum leak. Also, dirty throttle body can mimic a vacuum leak.
if pcv valve, spray a little brake cleaner around it and the engine will stumble slightly as it sucks in the cleaner. You can also smoke test it.
Looking for a used LR3 for a friends son. He’s taken a liking to them and it’s better to get them addicted while they are still young. Trying to make a LR junkie out of him. ;-)
lower miles is better, but hoping for one that is a bit of a project if it is the right price.
I did. You just want it to all be uniform and alternating sides (think north east south west) and rotate around until finger tight. Then torque to spec following same sequence
I’d almost just pay the shop time for diagnosis and if it’s something that you can fix, go that route (if the repair is labor intensive or can use a patch job and they want full replacement). Sounds like you’re pretty capable mechanically.
I’m done guessing- but will throw one more idea. Any chance you spilled anything in the switch? Could be causing the short. It’s a long shot- id say at this point I’d roll the dice and let the dealer find it.
my guess is they’ll be able to diagnose in an hour or two. If so you’re out $130-200...
for the job, pcv valves off amazon. You’ll need two (but in my case only one was bad). I used a dental pick to pull the plastic tabs. In hind sight I would have done the same, just would have used more care. The tabs on the pcv valve were brittle and snapped right off but think the pick also...
that was me. Yes, I could hear the same hissing. When I got the pcv valves off, I didn’t realize I snapped one of the tabs that holds the valve. $1500 mistake for a little piece of plastic.
Dang. Sorry my friend. Glad it’s functional for the time being. Hope they find the issue for you quickly.
Would love to know the cause when they get it sorted.

Careful though. I broke one of the little tabs off on the valve cover that hold the pcv valves in place. Meant a new valve cover for me. $1500 is what it cost me for the job
