    2005 LR3 SE

Test your battery first. The Land Rover Discovery 3 and 4 needs a fully charged battery other wise it sets off loads of warning lights. As for your sun roof, and 12 volt socket my car had similar problems when I brought mine 18 months ago. Found out that my Sunroof drains were blocked which sent...

    Lr3 or Disco I?

I brought a Land Rover Discovery 3 just over 3 years ago with 98000 miles on the clock. I knew it needed a new battery and the rear suspension bushes replacing. The car is relatively easy to work on. I’ve replaced the rear suspension myself with the longer lasting Polybushes and now the car...

    Possible Electrical Issue

Hi The lights problem could be a bad connection / bad earth fault.Try looking at the wiring connectors to your central fuse box. Also the battery saver relay ( q) again on your central fuse box could have a problem. I’ve had in the past relays which are controlling different circuits of the car...

Suspension Fault, HDC unavailable,Transmission fault, brake switch

Try resetting all your fault codes. After water ingress many fault codes come up like HDC Fault, Handbrake warning light, ABS. I’ve found also the horn comes on and stays on until I remove the fuse. Once I’ve dried the car out again and put the fuse back in again the horn will work properly...

LR3 starts shifting weird after dusk (around the time lights come on)

Had near enough problem when loads of warning lights kept coming on. Took to Land Rover and found problem with battery. Land Rovers need the battery to be in A1 condition all of the time and when battery starts to fail, it can cause the electronics to start playing up. Once my battery was...

Replacement of Air Strut Assembly: 06 LR3 HSE

They do say if your going to mess with any of the Air system parts you must remove relay and fuses. If you undo any of the Air Struts, Any of the Valve ,The Reservoir, sensors or control unit you must first release the air stored in the system. Undoing the valve slowly at the top of the air strut...

Replacement of Air Strut Assembly: 06 LR3 HSE

That price is way too high. I’m replacing at the moment my whole rear suspension. I’m changing the upper and lower bushes to Polybushes and replacing Knuckle, Hub and bearings. Also replacing link arms and both rear air shocks. I’m doing job my self and the whole price to do this big job using...

A new oil filter on every oil change?

Me I always replace oil filter with every oil change. The Filter is there to stop any minute steel filings and other contaminants entering the engine and doing damage. Ok changing oil every 5 to 7 thousand miles should prevent this happening but for an extra £10 I feel what the hell. I’d rather...

Jump start short + puff of smoke = charging sys. fault

Get your Alternator tested before looking for any other problems. An Alternator under load if working properly should give you still 13+ volts. Your Land Rover 4 realise on a good fully charged battery The Discovery 4 is very similar to the Discovery 3 and when my Battery failed I got numerous...

    Move on or Fix

Keep the Discovery3 and get the jobs that need doing repaired. You could by a late Discovery 3, A Discovery 4 or a later model but you won’t know what lies in store for you. If you have a good engine and everything except your known issues are in good condition the Discovery 3 will last you many...

    Move on or Fix

To be quite honest your engine could last and go over 250000 miles is all services are done and nothing is neglected. There is a known Fault with the Discovery 4 where the crank bearing are slipping causing the engine to seize. There is several disco 4s some with less than 85000 miles seizing so...

    Squealing brakes...

Had exactly the same problem with my Discovery 3 get some Mintex backing pads and put them between the Pad back and the piston. Also if you put a thin smear of copper slick again on Pad back and piston this sometimes works by itself

    Tpms

I would check your battery first. It’s getting to the time of year when the load on your battery increases due to lights being used more, heated windows being used and heater being used more. I had a Fault with my Discovery earlier on this year when I had multiple Fault lights kept coming on and...

    Special Programs off warnings

I had similar problem beginning of this year. Took my Discovery 3 2.7V6 to Land Rover and they said the battery was the problem. Had new battery and all lights now off. Land Rover said the Discovery 3 needs a good battery to work all the electronics in the car. If any of the cells of the battery...

    LR3 overheating

Why don’t you change your Antifreeze to the new waterless coolant. This stuff stops overheating issues and one put in the Land Rover you never have to change it again. This stuff stop corrosion in the engines cooling system. It’s boiling point is much higher than water, it pressure is much lower...

Crank shaft pulley in 2 pieces!

This is getting a more common fault. There are two Land Rover Discovery 3s for sale on eBay yesterday as spares or repair with the same Fault as yours. Maybe we should all start changing the pulley when we do a Cambelt change. There’s obviously an issue here with them.

2011, 66k miles, flat battery issues

I’ve got the Discovery 3 and I was getting loads of warning lights coming on and off while I was driving. Took it too Land Rover and was told that the electronics in the Land Rover 3&4 rely on a good condition Battery for the electronics to work properly. I asked how long should the battery last...

    Sunroofs don’t open

The only one that should open of the three is the one above the driver front passenger seat. If this ones not working you most likely find that the sunroof module situated just behind the sunroof opening has been damaged by water leaking in from water escaping from the sunroofs water drain...

Newbie--- which would you buy ? Sorry

Quite Honestly a Discovery with only 47000 miles would not have a split in the seats Leather. Or I’d be very surprised to see wear inside. My Discovery 3 has 132000 miles on clock and only has slight wear on drivers seat. My choice would be the 60k Discovery. Make sure you get some kind of...

    Manual/Auto Transmission Mode

This does sound like a electrical short happening. Have you a Sun Roof in your Discovery. Check your front floor foot wells and see if there is water under the carpets. Discoverys 3s are know for water leaking from perished sun roof drain pipes leaking down onto the inner fuse box and the wiring...

    Suspension Problem, I haven't one! LR3

Try the easiest first. Replace the suspension relay as these are known to cause problems. They are quiet cheap and usually replaced when a new compressor is brought.
