You're more or less correct. HP = Torque x RPM / 5252
So, from a start, it's torque that matters. For top speed, it's HP, because ultimately, higher RPM = higher HP. In the middle, basically, it depends.
From the formula, it's clear why flat torque curves are good, as torque drops off, at...
A couple more pix
Equally bad photography, but anyway. And a link to the pic with the roof loaded up.

So, a little later than expected, apologies. And, I'm a terrible photographer, so wasn't sure what to show. So, one nice thing about the Yakima set up is that it takes literally a few seconds to take the rack off the vehicle, so here are a couple of pix of the feet that attach.
The...
Insurance is almost, by definition, not worth it, otherwise they wouldn't make any money. That said, I posted in another thread, that your regular car insurance co. might sell an extended warranty. I've only bought one once, for a hard-top convertible that I had bought in a first model year...
I too just got this on my 2 week old 2014 LR4. The only good thing is that it made me check my tire pressures, all of which were too high. But after getting them to the recommended pressures, the fault hasn't gone away. I'm assuming(hoping) it will with a couple of restarts.
Also, I assume...
The Yakima bars are very easy to take off, if you leave the landing pads on. They're pretty low profile. It's literally a 30 second snap-on snap-off job.
2014 lr4
Using the computer, brand new LR4, loaded with 5 people + dog (total ~900 lbs), two bikes and loaded roofbox on top, highway driving, computer readout 19mpg.
No idea how accurate this is, I'll do manual checks going forward.
So, while I do like the Rover factory rails, the price was a bit off-putting, and I have assorted bars and add-ons for Thule/Yakima so wanted to try to re-use those.
Since I couldn't find much info about aftermarket racks, and in fact, a few dealers incorrectly told me it was impossible to add...
Some of the various "buying services" might help. I didn't use them this time, but things like autobytel or truecar, etc. might help. Costco car program has pre-negotiated prices with certain dealerships, if you happen to be a member. I was able to leverage this price a little, even though I...
So $4k+ which I guess gets you 3-4 extra years and 50k miles. How much are you guys expecting to spend on repairs? In the first 100k, I haven't come close to that on any of my cars. Hoping I haven't just bought a huge money pit!
I was similarly frustrated in the NYC area - went to the Manhattan dealership where they had no LR4s, but could order one with 3-4 month delivery. There were some dealers in the area(say 50-75 mi radius) with some inventory, but still, pretty tight. I went to a dealer with one in stock, it had...
On the warranty front - look into your insurance. I have Geico, and it's going to be roughly $200/yr(albeit starting after year 1) to get a 7/100 warranty, $250 deductible.
Seems far better than dealer, I had(and used) this on a different car. Seems like a no-brainer.
