The tire is a 255/50/20, I am still working out my stop design to keep it away from both the tail light and rear door. I turned the handle 3 complete turns, I would be interested in the 90 degree handle. Can you show me an example? -

As far as opening and closing it would be very easy as it is on bearings and rotates very smoothly. However as with any tire carrier you would need to have firm control of the tire or it could do substantial damage if it were allowed to rotate freely. -

As far as "washboard damage" I do not see that the carrier would make it to the rear hatch unless something very violent occurred. The carrier is 2.5" from the door at its closest point. It is constructed from 2X3 3/16 tubing, I can only get the carrier to move 1/4" when shaking it with all my... -

The inboard latch is actually threaded into the mount that is attached to the bumper. It is crazy stiff, with the 2*3 tubing and 3/16 side walls. I wi ll report on any vibration once i get it mounted -

I am pretty excited! Just bought a 65 LR with a safari top, PTO winch and PTO shaft out the rear. The frame is super solid, four jump seats and a couple of extra boxes of parts, More to come tomorrow when I bring her home. -
