    '97 D1 new tires

I finally broke down & bought new tires. After languishing for months over brand, size, price, driving style, price, ratings and price, I bought Sumitomo Hr4-all terrains in 245/70r/16. I pulled my firestone destination le's off after over 60k (still had some tread) I was looking @ the AT...

    Tail light problem

If it's the fuse, B/4 you replace it, check your glovebox light for a broken plastic mount. It may short to the dash randomly, mine gave me fits B/4 I accidently found it was blowing fuse #8 -- disconnected plug= all good luck, greg

    big problem, inspection

It's got to be an O2 connection or wire. do a web search on O2 operation, I typed a description of the sequence after startup and tried to put it into my last post, the forum told me I wasn't authorized (go figure) Since I can't type, I'm going to rest now. (humor) Reread my post to you...

    big problem, inspection

I was kidding about the insurance, the CEL or check engine light. I thought yours was on based on your "not ready codes" for your o2 sensors & cats I'm going to look back over thread & dig up something. Are your o2's are 4-wire or 3-wire? luck, greg

    big problem, inspection

Understood This is all based on the truck running well & the CEL light is not flashing (that's bad) my wife's cousin sells insurance, for a fee I'd call him:biggrin:

    big problem, inspection

W/P - Sorry for jumping in late, it's my understanding that the ECU has to relearn operating parameters based on past running history vs. now. The older vehicles such as ours (mine's '97) generally check emissions(the o2 sensors) @ idle & wide open throttle. not in the normal driving range...

    Overheating

Have you checked the routing of the serpentine belt? It's easy to install incorrectly & will result in water pump running backwards. I'm not wild about hard upper hose when warmed up - I'd let it warm up with cap removed from top of radiator & watch for bubbles indicating combustion gases...

    disco engine issue...help

Sounds like my '96 4.0 RR I replaced the crankshaft position sensor (behind exh manifold driver's side facing rear of car, thru the bell housing, sensing pulses on flex plate (was that a run-on sentence?) $70 @ dealer for part 1-hr change This seemed to eliminate the...

    help regarding fan temp switch

Are you talking about the fans in front of the radiator? (a/c condenser fans) They run when the a/c is on. The activation switch mounts to the condensor tubing. The stock engine fan is not electric and has no thermostat switch. (A viscous clutch coupling) When I installed twin electrics...

    Airspring problems

I'm not certain about the D2, but on my RR when I replaced the bags, I also replaced ALL the "O"rings @ each connection, it worked perfectly I don't know if the D2 uses the same setup, but the "o"rings were $1.60/doz @ my hardware store (16 needed) for four wheels (yours are rear only) I...

    98 Discovery emission problem

was it the same exact MAF? I've changed back & forth between RR & D1 the (3) MAFs I have & not thrown a code. (they're all identical) I can't imagine JUST changint the Maf would cause it to throw the code, but as I said, if your old one was dirty, the new values sent to the ECU may have pissed...

    98 Discovery emission problem

I can't say for sure, but I believe that I'd try driving a good distance above 2200rpm & see if that blew out some of the crap. There's tips for cleaning up your intake, but I'm sorry, I can't type faster than you can search the forums for it in fact I can't type luck, greg

    Deah Wobble

Yup, as I recall,my rave sez "0" to +15mins.(1/4 deg.) out -- did it with lockable sliding extension. referencing front & rear inside of rims (true rims) Whole thing took less than 30 mins. or so. - I took my sweet time. thx 4 response, luck, greg

    Deah Wobble

Not being one to waste 1/2hr of typing, I'll leave this post here even after reading the one above - CRAP I'm in (4) forums, the common denominator for death wobble is swivel preload I've not experienced it, but after I rebuilt my steering (all) I had wandering & skittishness over bumps...

    98 Discovery emission problem

You can sucessfully clean the MAF on D1's Buy specifically MAF cleaner - I've done my '97 D1 & my '96 RR se Worked great Don't shock it, let the MAF & cleaner get to room temp, (although cleaner will spray cold) & let MAF dry well (2-3 mins. ) b/4 using I believe the ECU has to relearn...

    big problem, inspection

In all honesty, I'd replace all (4) Do what joey says, to be safe or if you want to solder & shrinktube, get your vin# (there may have been a midyear change) I did search for '96 o2 sensors and found them as low as $19.98 @ partstrain. (2) years ago I put in $45 ntk's (soldered old...

cant get diff lock to shift

Ouch --- My guess is a pin may have broken or seperated on the linkage. the lever may move but the transfer case doesn't shift. Worse, the testoserone took over, and he broke the linkage under the shifter (still repairable) It's common on these to freeze up from lack of use, and there's a...

    big problem, inspection

I'm puzzled that your check engine light is not on, but my guess is that one of your O2 sensors heater wires (they each have 4 wires to them) has either broken or shorted. The poopy part is it might be an intermittent fault. This causing the sensor to be "not ready" if it's not ready then...

    big problem, inspection

Hmmmm- My guess is the ECU got a heads up on an oxygen sensor heater circuit (shorted heater wire?) only once. If the ECU sees it again after multiple starts it would threw a code & turn on the "I hate you" light. Or the light's burned out Joey's correct re: the abs light. & It could be...
