Drop everything and get your cooling system properly bled. If you don't get rid of that big air bubble in your cooling system, it will cause serious problems to your engine. Do NOT put it off. Get help immediately. Seriously. These Rover engines do not handle cooling deficiencies too well... -

starter in 96 Disco
Just tap your starter motor gently with a hammer. It will probably start up just fine. The solenoid is on its way out, probably filled up with mud and now dried out. -

Bottoming Out?
Do you have an unmodified vehicle, i.e. your suspension is factory standard? If so, your front axle is probably hitting the bumpstops, as your front springs will have probably sagged to the point where there isn't much gap between the rubber bump stops and the axle. You need new springs to... -

I don't believe that Land Rover ever produced a Rover V8 with the top hat liners. So the Rover V8 motor, whatever the model year, is suceptible to a cylinder liner slippage if overheated. Unfortunately, my first hand experience was that my motor slipped a liner even though it did not...
