Nice find at a great price! Show tires + LR3 + winter = unstoppable.
Too bad that the seller didn't realize that LR3 and X5 share the same bolt pattern ;)
BMW uses the same ZF transmission as the LR3. They have defined "lifetime" as a fluid replacement every 100K miles. Without a drain plug, it needs too be siphoned out.
I don't think anyone is suggesting to "change transmissions every few years" as you are asking above.
Sounds like part of the "charm" of LR ownership to me ;)
I also have a 2005, but no history of an overheating Navi unit. Is it the Navi itself cycling down, or the dvd drive or just the display screen?
Here are a few common issues to look for: http://www.landroverworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14781
Very low miles for an '05, nice find!
Service-wise, it is due for a new battery and brakes, would check those two first to see if already done. Oil/filter are due at 37.5K
These are two different issues, I've experienced both.
One is with the engine, where it shutters on accelleration at higher speeds. This first appeared when gas was reformulated with increase ethanol blend (~2008?). Search, there are several threads on the subject.
The other issue (and...
700 mm (27.6 inches) with air suspension in off-road mode, 600 mm without air suspension.

BMW/MINI have a great online website too - every part for every model. Haven't seen one for LR other than at a body shop.
Perhaps at the landrovertechinfo.com website?
Like Houm said, these occurrences are rather typical. I get this when the weather turns colder, with a newer battery. A reboot clears it.
As long as it isn't happening frequently, I do not get concerned.
Keep us posted on this one!
It's an automatic transmission. Isn't a tachometer kind of pointless? I doubt that the ZF Transmission Control Module would allow breaching the engine max RPM.
Anywho, I'm not close to my LR3 or Owner's Manual at the moment and can't answer the question, sorry.
