    Q7 vs. LR4?

I'll echo the sentiments expressed here. I do not think the Q7 will be any more reliable than an LR4. Our 2008 FFRR is the most reliable vehicle we have owned, including a Lexus GX470, and our LR3 was more reliable than our Cayenne GTS. Key factors for me are the dealers. I just had the RRS...

New LR4 or used Range Rover

We have a 2008 Range Rover (FFRR) that we have had for 32 months. There was a big difference between how the LR3 and the FFRR drove, but that difference has been significantly reduced with the LR4. Same comments for the interior. The LR4 also handles better. I have not offroaded an LR4, but the...

Off road tires fro LR4 with 18" wheels

I had 265\60-18 Yoko A\T-S's on my LR3. No fitment issues at all, even in access height. Be careful of this size, however, as the load ratings tend to be <110; which, according to my dealer, is below the 110 minimum communicated by LRNA. This is the OE 18" size for the GX 460 and new Jeep GC.

    Off Road Paint Protection

Griots use to offer a spray on "Rhino-liner" type product, that I use to use on my Cayman while on the track - on top of the 3M (Yes, I'm paranoid, but I had too replace aluminum hoods on both my WRX and Miata due to stone dents while on track) Worked fabulous, and you literally peeled it off...

    Off Road Paint Protection

It is my firm biased believe that you are obligated to take any vehicle with a low-range off-road.... I always travel off-road with a maul-axe, anvil lopping shears, a machete, and a shovel. Yes, it is a pain to perform some "yard work" while on the trail, but it is an even bigger pain to...

    LR3 and Stormer wheels/tires

275/45-20 is almost stock diameter 265/50-20 seems to be the official disco3.co.uk ideal size - no rubbing, but a half-inch bigger than OE diameter 275/55-20 is a very common tire size (Tahoe, Denali's) and many AT options, but most report they rub without modification - 32" Note...

    Leather care

On the Oxford Leather in my wife's FFRR, I have found that the Leather Master's kit from the dealer works very well. It is a cleaner and a protectant, on the basis of that the leather is sprayed and does not need deep conditioning. The recently upgraded the LR kit from Eagle One to Leather...

Opinions on LR3 Wheel Alignment frequency

This is off memory so please give me some lattitude, but some '05's and early '06's had alignment issues straight from the factory (TSB). My '06 burned through its first set of tires in 1500miles - Long Story: Skip if trying to be productive. Brought it in to BMCD at 600 miles complaining...

Need advice on LR4 20 inch wheel tire options

The Yokohama AT-S's are a great AT tire, I had them in 265/60-18. Very high wet/dry road grip, and outstanding hydroplanning resistance. They do very well off-road for an AT, and I would place them above the Revo and way above the Pirelli ATR. The Pirelli's are fine offroad if it is dry, but...

    latest LR4 comparison

I purposely did not get an LR4 when I sold my Cayenne in November, as I was hoping LRNA would finally give us the Diesel as a 2012 - dare to dream. I bought the pre-owned RRS S\C as a "gap" truck, as while it is a lot of fun to drive, does not have the head-room and functionality I need.

    latest LR4 comparison

Will reiterate comments on the GX460. We had a 2003 GX470 for 5 years, and the new GX seems to be worse in so many ways. I had headroom to spare in the 470, but cannot come close to fitting in the 460. Way overpriced and dated. Plus, I hated the half steel spring - half air spring suspension...

    LR4 Metropolis

I think it is very sharp looking, and I like the smoked-out shiny bit treatment. British Motor Cars in SF has a few in inventory, and pics on their Web site. If you want info on specs, it is called the Landmark edition in GB, and they have the specs on the LRUK site.

    Tire options for LR4

If you are looking for a bit more sidewall and footprint, but want to keep it within 2% of OE diameter (i.e., 30.5"), Nitto offers the Terra Grappler in a 265/50-20.

    leather cleaner

This was a big problem for my wife's FFRR with Ivory Oxford Leather. I tried everything (Zymol, Zaino, Griots), but found that Leather Masters works the best to repel stains. LRNA recently upgraded the dealer kit from Eagle One (as if!) to Leather Masters. The kit has both a cleaner and a...

Burning brake pad smell after stopping after uphill climb

If the hill is slippery, thus invoking the traction control, whereby the brakes are used to control wheel spin, then your brakes may indeed be overheated. Immediately parking the vehicle before the pads and rotors cool, may be further adding to the burning smell. I only had this happen to me...

First Jeep copies LR and now Ford too.

Doesn't anyone find it odd that a front-biased AWD vehicle without a dual-range transfer case (that I could discern from the marketing hyperbole) even has a Terrain knob, much less a Mud & Ruts selectable? I like the new GC too, and have very fond memories of my old 2000 GC V8 with...

    Parking lot protection

Always park my Rovers and Cayenne at full-offroad height - makes a difference. Kids will build-up their climbing skills.

    Parking lot protection

Another endorsement for the LRNA side-steps for door-ding protection. I had these and the side molding, and had not one door ding in 3 years. Actually witnessed a "lady" kick her 3-series coupe door into the side steps. Put a nice dent on the edge of her door. Luckily, I was walking toward my...

    Rear Locker worth it?

Yes, the amber parking brake light. I notice it at the top of the climb, as I do not notice much besides my line and the tachometer until I'm at the top. This is the first part of the climb. The hill in the top left of the pic is the very top of the...

    Rear Locker worth it?

Only thing I will add is that climbing a particularly long (.6 miles) steep crushed granite/grass/brush slope of between 20 - 40 degrees, the amber parking brake light would appear, the transmission would not shift out of second gear (Lo), and my rear brakes were very hot. I attributed this to...

Looking for input from LR2 owners!

I really like the LR2 as well, and have driven LR2 loaners for thousands of miles. It is a fun little SUV that is a pleasure to drive. I thought of one myself, but decided if I were to go that route I would go with the Q5, Jeep, or Outback. I love Subaru's, so I am biased, and the Outback pretty...

    Help Replacing Tires

Did not see the Pirelli ATR, which is available in the OE 18" and 19" sizes. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=Scorpion+ATR

    Tire tread differences

Not for Land Rovers, but for Subaru's they warned about having tires with significantly disparate tread-depths, as this will strain\wear the differentials. I can not remember the details, but it was a warning in the manual.

-Off topic- What kind of car did you own before your LR3?

Ranch/surf/family trucks before the 06 LR3 SE: 2003 Lexus GX (Good truck, but scant leg room and really bad suspension) 2003 Mercedes ML 350 (Stiffer suspension than my Suby STI, god awful truck with hideous build quality, lasted 6 months) 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 LTD with Quadradrive...

When is the US going to get a diesel LR4?

Seeing how a spice girl is their new brand/product consultant - I would sadly agree with that. Dan Neil had a great article last year that discussed how Land Rover would be in big trouble by 2016 if they did not do something drastic to meet the Obama/Pelosi corporate average fuel consumption...
