Advice on a new vehicle? (to augment or replace the LR3)

The problem with the Tahoe and Sequoia is that while they are a lot bigger in external dimensions, they do not offer the proportionate amount of interior room. My head brushes the headliner in the Tahoe, and the third row is no where near as comfy and roomy as the LR3. The Tahoe XL does have a...

    LR4 Off Road Video

Call me a pansy, but that is why I always bring my Compound Anvil Lopping Shears on foliage rich trails; though I am still an expert with the Random Orbital Polisher and 2000 grit sand paper. Glad to see you enjoying your truck!

    Gasoline Brand

Agree with Toptier. Before I "matured", I drove various turbo-charged Suby's and a Cayman. The Suby's would have massive hesitation when accelerating hard ( punch throttle - wait - wait - go) and the Cayman would ping on hot days, loose power, and get bad gas mileage whenever I used anything...

    Premium Leather?

I'm with holygrail. The leather on my LR3 SE was not the softest (at first), but was very thick and ventilated. After three years of bimonthly cleaning conditioning with Zymol or Griot's, they were very soft, but still wrinkle free and and impervious to scratches and stains. The leather on my...

    LR4 Rear Locking Differential

One thing to consider is that prolonged low-traction drives might heat-up the rear brakes? I noticed with my LR3 that after climbing a 30-40 degree grass/gravel slope, that is almost a mile long (Tally-Ho Trail), my yellow amber parking brake light would illuminate until the rear brakes...

    All-Terrain Tires. Let's have a conversation.

I had the Yoko's for about 20K on my LR3 too, and had no issues with them. I have the ATRs on my GTS. I would rank the ATS's as being equal on the road to the ATR, but superior to it offroad. Nathan I think you are confusing the Yoko with the Toyo Open Country AT, the latter being very...

    LR3 verses Range Rover

I agree with yrbender, the FFRR is more capable and has a smoother ride. The suspension is amazing, like no other 4x4. However, with the brushbar, sidesteps and non-painted bumpers I could drive through brush with no worries in the LR3. The LR3 is also noticeably narrower on tight trails. I also...

How much more do the SA's weigh than the tires they replaced? Unsprung weight increases have big impacts on mileage. Tread compound can effect mileage too.

Adding another SUV without buying 2nd LR3

I have not owned an H3, but did drive a rental for two weeks on Kauai last year. It is a funky SUV that has character, decent room for its size, is solidly built, and did well on the beach, negotiating muddy rutted tracks, and driving below 50mph. Very manueverable and comfortable. The...

    LR3 Tire size question

I had 265/60-18 Yoko A/T-S's, which are HR rated with a LI of 110. They performed better onroad in all conditions than any all-season I have experienced. They also do very well off-road - for an AT. No rubbing.

The annual 19 inch tire question! Whattya got? Whattya like?

Another vote for the ATR. I think there on-road performance (noise, wet/dry grip, hydroplane resistance, and ride) is better than any all-season I have experienced, including the Michelin Lat's on my wife's FFRR. Offf-road grip is very good for an AT, but I would rate it below the Revo and Yoko...

LR3/LR4 or the Range Rover off road?

I've driven our bone stock 2008 FFRR and my old LR3 with Yoko A\T-S over the same terrain on our ranch. Lots of narrow cliffside roads, a few 2' deep rockstrewn creeks and 30 degree plus ascents. The FFRR has a noticeably smoother ride over dirt roads and rough terrain, and seems to climb...

    LR2 18 tires

255/55-18's have the same rolling diameter as the OE 18 & 19" tires. They might be a "smidge" wider, so fit would be a question. In that size I know the Pirelli ATR and Toyo Open Country AT are available.

    Nitto Terra Grappler 255/60/18

If you are looking to stay around the OE size, but want a civilized HR rated AT tire, I would look at the Pirelli ATR or Yokohama A\T-S. The Yoko is the best onroad performing AT tire I have ever experienced, as well as performing very well off-road. It performs better in every way than the OE...

    LR3 in the Sand

Late model Toyota/SUV's have a quirk whereby if all 4 wheels cannot find traction the brake-activated traction control shut's the whole forward momentum party down. I do not know if the new automatic crawl mode addresses this on the 2009+ Cruiser/LX/4-Runner. I do know that my 2003 GX 470 could...

    Tires for the on-road guy

Sean, If you are looking for outstanding wet weather performance, I would also look at the Yokohama A\T-S. They have the best wet/dry grip and hydroplane resistance of any truck tire, all-season or AT, I have experienced. They are also quiter and smoother that the OE GY Wranglers.

    LR3 Tires

I believe the load index is 109 on the LTX's. LRNA does not like you to go below a LI of110 and an H-speed rating. If you like that size I would consider the Michelin Lattitudes, Pirelli ATRs or the Yoko Geolander A\T-Ss. I've had all three, and think they are all comparable on-road, despite the...

    winter tires recommended?

Nice post audi. Clear, concise and ACCURATE. I like the fact that someone besides myself reads CR and Car & Driver, and juxtaposes two very different "camps of thought". Perhaps Grassroots Motorsports too?

    Tire question 19's

Agreed. I still like the Geolander A/T-S's more than the Pirelli ATR's.

    Tires for the on-road guy

Given that you live in New England and want a year-round tire, I would look at the Nokian WRG2 SUV's http://www.nokiantires.com/tyre?id=11955&group=2.02&name=Nokian+WRG2+SUV

    Tire question 19's

I'll advocate for the Scorpian ATR's as well. I think they match or beat the Michelin Lattitude's, which my wife has on her FFRR, for on-road driving. Very impressed with their hydroplanning resistance and wet/dry grip - especially for an AT. Note: The ATR's are on my Cayenne.

    Another tire question...

You might also try the Yokohama Geolander A/T-S in the 265\60-18 or 275\60-18. I ran the 265's with no issues. Better in everyway than the GY's on the road, and equivalent to Bridgestone Revos offroad. HR speed rated too.

    Catastrophic Trans Fail

When all the loaners are out at my dealer, it usually does not take too much cajoling to get them to let me take something from the pre-owned fleet. As in your case, with your truck being out of service for multiple days, I do not think this is out-of-line.

    jeep lr3 news

I had a 2000 GC Limited V8 with the offroad package. It was a fabulous truck and could climb anything with the Quadradrive. The suspension was among the best coil suspensions I've experienced. It was small inside, however, and my head brushed the roof with the sunroof. It was fairly reliable...
