Here's an image of the camshaft alignment from this video, at approximately 30m and 52 seconds - he mentions the boxed text facing down. And with the locking tool in place: Crank position sensor lock tool (fits in an unseen square hole): Crank lock tool where the starter motor is removed:

Land Rover Valve Cover Spark Plug Gasket - Genuine Rover LR014345 - thoughts on cost

Curious what folks think of the price difference between OE and after market for valve cover spark plug/injector gaskets, so OE are $25.19 (I assume this is each) and after market are $4.79. I'm having a hard time reconciling this huge cost difference and whether it's worth paying over $200 for...

Looking to purchase timing chain tools

I'm back and working again on the project albeit as a very slow pace... FWIW I posted in this thread last night about removing the starter motor: https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/changing-starter-motor-on-lr4.42106/ I tried turning the motor over last night to get everything aligned for...

    Changing Starter Motor on LR4

Anything I can do or do I need a new starter motor? I still have to get the cable and the old nut separated as well! So this: It's almost as if the nut is retained in place by bending wire tabs on to the nut? I was hoping this is a spade type connector but it's not coming off with some...

    Changing Starter Motor on LR4

Here's what the motor looks like from the pinion side: And here's what I broke: Anyone got any ideas or is it a new starter? It does look to be the original! Hope this helps those who follow!

    Changing Starter Motor on LR4

Continued... Once the plastic covers are removed you see this: Zoomed in; here are the three remaining things that need to be removed: Here's a close up of the electrical connections, ultimately the small wire broke off the motor (my fault): The motor came out from just behind the lower...

    Changing Starter Motor on LR4

I had to remove the starter motor today (while working on my timing chains) and never found a really useful removal guide so here are some notes on this topic. The body of the starter motor is secured with two bolts; they are both accessible from the cross member that goes across the front of...

    dreaded coolant level warning

Can you see any coolant in the valley, on mine it was pretty easy to see down by the Y crossover pipe. I think the o'ring on the oil coolant pipe is often the culprit of slow leaks.

Thank you, I’m going to be a fine wine all the way with this project! Won’t have anything to report until Dec/7th as I’m headed to the UK.

    Timing Chain parts

I'm totally purchasing OE; they've lasted 102K miles so no need to change that formula. I ended up purchasing some stuff from FCP Euro and Lake Bluff Land Rover. It's all in a spreadsheet (with links) if you need the list? I hate to say it but British Atlantic can be quite expensive and I...

Looking to purchase timing chain tools

Thank you Rover Range and scapistron. Understood (esp. the tightening procedure - which sounds really scary!), but if you have the crank pulley removal toolkit then surely this takes place of locking down the crank to stop anything moving. I'll do as you say, just trying to understand, for...

Looking to purchase timing chain tools

Thanks Rover Range - the odd link makes sense; also thanks for all the other tips. I only have a 1/2" breaker bar so I've purchased an adapter (1/2" female to 3/4" male). Left hand thread when the bolt is marked with 12.9 but this is also what I'm assuming. Curious why the crank has to be...

    2012 LR4 coolant leak

I don't think the folks here can emphasize this enough, if you're in there then to these crossover pipes.

Looking to purchase timing chain tools

OK, Thanks, guess I'll need to eat my spinach tonight! Is this a fools errand? I have yet to undo the crank bolt; I was thinking to get it lined up with the timing marks (even if it takes 30 revolutions); then install the crankshaft pulley remover (but not the aligning tools yet - as I don't...

Looking to purchase timing chain tools

FWIW - a pencil is too small to block the injector hole, anyway, all injectors are out (I left PB Blaster in the holes over night) - it wasn't too bad so I feel I got lucky, the max slides on the slide hammer must been about twenty on injector 6, most were less than ten. I've yet to really...

    2012 LR4 coolant leak

Here's the engine block (the intake) so the gaskets seal the inlet manifold to this: Here's the thermostat as reference: Here's the thermostat at FCP Euro: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/land-rover-engine-coolant-thermostat-lr4-range-rover-range-rover-sport-genuine-rover-rov-lr032135 And...

    2012 LR4 coolant leak

Here's the oil cooler assembly, it sits in the "V" of the engine and is typically covered by the intake manifold which in turn is covered partially by the intake plenum which in turn is covered by the engine cover; given mine is in parts at the moment I can show you these photos... Starting...

    2012 LR4 coolant leak

Sorry to hear about your loss. Absolutely agree on the front crossover and rear heat manifold, it would be crazy to be that far it there and not do these. I would actually hazard a guess that when they remove the front crossover to do the oil cooler that it will break anyway (they generally do...

Thanks, was thinking exactly the same, also have a vacuum extractor here... It's going to be part of the current work (by necessity)
