safe to drive with a p0102?

I'm wondering if the 1996 D1 is safe to drive with the p0102 code and CEL on? I know this is a low voltage to MAF code but don't know exactly what that means. Am I doing fast permanent damage to the 02 sensors or fouling anything else up? Thanks,

greg, if the p0102 is not a faulty MAF where should I look next? what would this be pointing to?

    new plugs now a stumble

ok. CEL finally came on today. took it in and found a P0102 code. which points to a bad MAF. guess i fried it. it was the original MAF so, she had a good run. Thanks everyone for your help and input.

    new plugs now a stumble

unhooked the battery over night to let the ECU reset. No change in the driving or starting. I guess i'm going to throw the old plugs back in and see what happens, since regapping the new ones didn't work. the old plugs were rc12mc4. the new ones are rn11yc4. I'm fairly certain this is...

    new plugs now a stumble

Ok. Pulled the plugs today and regapped them from .04" to.035". This didn't change the starting in issue. Still dies the first time I start it and then the second time will start if I play with the gas pedal. One note of interest, while my original plugs were a nice tannish color the ones I...

    new plugs now a stumble

no codes. MAF was working fine before. I have cleaned anyway. Contact feels and looks good. The plugs are champion 322 or rn11yc4. same plug different #. wires are magnacor 8mm. have 18,000 miles on them. did not have these issues before I changed the plugs. I'm going to pull them and...

    new plugs now a stumble

she'll start but I have to feather the gas pedal. didn't need to do that before. then there is still the hesitation off the stop. looked at the can of spray cleaner i had used and it is carb and choke cleaner. hope i didn't screw up the 02 sensors. but this doesn't seem like an 02 issue.

    new plugs now a stumble

Yes, I know this sounds like a newbie problem. But here goes anyway. Changed the plugs today in the 96 disco. I disconnected the intake hose and took off the MAF. The MAF plug is broken and came unplugged. When I put everything back together I plugged the MAF plug back into it's socket...

    Question on gas grade

I've found my 96 rover runs better and gets better fuel mileage w/ 93 octane. If I were you I would run some seafoam through the next couple of tanks and one can in the intake to clean out carbon deposits in the intake valves and other junk in the injectors. There's a write up on this site...

removing air dam and fog lights

Are there any adverse side-effects to removing the air dam? I think that's what you call the plastic bit below the bumper that houses the fog lights. I'm thinking of removing it in the future but wasn't sure if it would affect fuel consumption or cooling or just eliminate the fog lights...

    check engine light

the service engine light is the emission reminder. definitely run two cans of seafoam through the truck. one in a gas tank full of premium and the other in through the intake. do a search on this sight using seafoam as the keyword if you don't know how to put a can through the intake.

    electric fan conversion

thanks, greg. i did a search under electric fan conversion and must have missed it, because i couldn't find it anywhere. i'll check the tech articles again. is there a key word to use for the search that would be helpful? thanks again,

    electric fan conversion

Has anyone who has done this conversion on a D1 posted a write up anywhere? Are there reliability issues? Though with my 96 at 160xxx any electric fan will probably outlast the engine. Do the benefits of the conversion outweigh the downsides? Thanks,

    champion plugs

little clarification. i am now running the RN11YC plugs which has a 14mm thread and 19 mm reach. the hex size is roughly 20mm. the RN12YC has all the same specs so i'm sure that's not the plug i'm looking for.

    champion plugs

when i first bought my 96 discovery it had some champion plugs that were slightly larger than the stock plugs i have in there now. i foolishly threw away the old plugs with out taking down the number stamped on them. i have searched all over the web including champion's site but i can't find...

oil cooler lines on a 96 discovery

My discovery's oil and transmission fluid lines are leaking fluid. Do I need to replace these with new hard and soft lines or can I can i reuse the hard lines and have a parts shop fab up soft lines with compression fittings? Thanks,

oil leak from oil pressure switch

watched oil drip out from where the oil pressure switch threads into the block today when my 96 discovery was running. is this as easy a fix as taking the switch out and putting a new gasket on and then putting the switch back in? thanks,

    water in electrical lines

The other day I noticed the passenger side rear bumper side marker light was out. So, I reached under the bumper and pulled the bulb assembly out of the housing. The bulb still looked good, but I pulled it out of the socket anyway. When I did water poured out of the socket. There was enough...

    1999 DI or 2000 DII

Right now I'm just starting to research both and look for 99's and 00's for sale. Not a lot showing up in saint louis right now. The D2 scares me a little because of the three amigo stuff and the air ride suspension. This would be more stuff I probably couldn't fix if it broke.

    1999 DI or 2000 DII

Looking to buy my wife a newerish discovery. I've been looking at both the 99 DI and the 2000 DII. Right now we have a 96 DI and love it. We really like the 96 and it is fairly easy to work on, so, I'm leaning towards the 99 DI. Any group wisdom on this? If this has been asked before is...

no start, no start, then start.

would the crankshaft position sensor cause intermittent non starts? I had a F250 Diesel that did this occasionally and it turned out to be a faulty crank sensor.

no start, no start, then start.

tonight my 96 D1 decided not to start when i turned the key. In fact, she made no sound at all. No click. Nothing. Did this twice. Then I shifted down to Neutral. Still nothing. No click. No Sound. Nothing. Put her back into park. Sat a for a couple of seconds and then turned the key...
