Ticking nose or just ticking bomb?

Yeah, well the 6cyl in our 2015 isn't any different. More clanging noise on start up than my F350 Power stroke diesel. 39k miles on it with a timing chain replacement done in the 20k range. We added an extended service plan that lasts until May 2023 or 75,000 that covers all but maintenance just...

    Hard Choices

I know a few FCA dealer service managers. Want to know what they do when I talk with them? Complain about how hard it is to stop water leaks in jeeps. Of course I live in a rainy climate, but something to consider.

Crankshaft Sensor or Timing Chain or ?

you need to check the laws in your state. There may be a reasonable use law or something of the like in your state. If so, the dealer can't write a contract to circumvent it. If you have not done a free consult with an attorney, I would suggest you do. I would go to the Lexus dealer and talk...

    LS SWAP - Yeah... Really

Bumping this old thread b/c I have no interest in the Defender and the whole LS swap is fascinating to me. Wondering if anyone has seen/heard any more details/advances on an LS swap. Our LR4 is still very low miles (36,000) and we extended the warranty another four years, but I could see me...

    Another Defender hint?

Not trying to be confrontational with you here, but it's not that easy. In fact, it's not near that easy. The reason (using your VW example) they can do that is years of planning. As a novice looking inside from out, you think there's not a lot of effort. That really couldn't be further from the...

    Another Defender hint?

Yeah, no. What's amazing is when someone has a high volume launch without a misstep. To understand why requires and understanding of the process. Retooling to an all new model requires plan shut down and new tooling. New lines, new processes, new parts, etc. that takes time. The coordination...

    Another Defender hint?

damn straight on a a vehicle where the OE is looking for volume to make it pencil. Sorry, but this is not a halo vehicle like the Ford GT, NSX, or Hell cat. This is a vehicle that JLR hopes will move into one of their top sellers. P1ssing people off who have an interest with an offensive...

HAHAHAHA. LMAO. Not like this is a limited addition. What a joke. Apparently, they must be the only dealership in the country who hasn't seen one of these yes.

    Another Defender hint?

Still waiting for the real reveal. Keep thinking JLR has pulled off an elaborate hoax and the real Defender will be soon appear. I guess not. This will be a complete dud in the US market at this price point and with this styling. Here's the problem: there were two potential markets for this...

    Another Defender hint?

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. If you think of this as lineage to the defender line, it's probably a bit like Spalding from Caddy Shack, so you're going to be disappointed. Clearly, from the pics, this is a bit more upscale than you'd want and is not targeted at those who've dreamed of...

    Another Defender hint?

this is going to be a total joke. The problem is that hype never matches reality. My guess is this ends up looking something like a Ford Flex and a Kia Soul had a love child. Prepare for bitter disappointment. Anything you have to hype this much certainly can't live up to it. Reminds me of...

    Another Defender hint?

Wow. They stole the color. What a dastardly deed. There's only so many ways to design an interior while trying to appeal to 95% of the population. The non technical term is "swimming in a sea of sameness". Everyone is doing the same research and getting the same feedback from the same people and...

    "Debadged" Hood / Bonnet...

I debadged my top of the line suburban and it looked great. It depends on the vehicle. I don't think my super duty diesel would look good debadged nor do I think our LR$ with the black pack would. But it's certainly an individual taste thing.

    "Debadged" Hood / Bonnet...

One of the few vehicles where'd i'd agree with you. To much real estate on the hood. That said, we have a black Lux with the black out kit. If we didn't, I would have switched to the black lettering for sure.

    Another Defender hint?

Ha. The Ford design style would have been a much better nod to the old version. Mustang much? These clowns at JLR don't know what they are doing. Agree 100% on your take of the design, especially the "dreaded tapering roof line" but that didn't come from Ford. Nope, these bloody fools mucked...

Items to check before 100K warranty expires?

check autotrader for a CPO LR4 replacement. I just couldn't stomach running naked with one of these. Love ours, but...

    Went to use hitch...surprise!

I bought an $80k diesel truck to tow with as my wife wouldn't let me tow with her LR4. $400 sounds pretty cheap.

    3rd party extended warranty companies

Okay, here is what you should do then, call some local indy shops and ask 1) if they sell any that covers land rover and/or 2) if they take any for their land rover vehicles they service. If it's a bigger indy, chances are they've handled multiple aftermarket warranty companies. Ask them which...

    3rd party extended warranty companies

In my experience, you need to buy what the dealer is selling and service it there. Then you never get questioned.

    3rd party extended warranty companies

We used First Automotive through our dealership (Land Rover of Tacoma) for our 2015 LR4 Lux. Not cheap, but we paid about $10k below market value back in 2015 when we bought the vehicle, so we aren't screaming about the $4k price tag on the aftermarket plan. Typically, we hold vehicles for 4...

    Another Defender hint?

not even a question. D5 is just a mom cruiser. Sure, it might have off road cred, but fugly and those pass seats are a mess. I'd go with the Landmark even if it cost more.
