    While the engine is out...

As noted above, valve cover gaskets. And if the passenger side one is leaking oil into the alternator (like mine was), a new alternator too.

100,000+ miles. Out of warranty. Time to trade?

I had an indy mechanic replace the rear pads & rotors on our old LR3. About 3 days later one of the rear brakes locked up. That awful burning clutch smell, blue burnt rotor and super hot rear wheel. Surprised it didn't melt the tire bead. Sure enough, indy had no clue how to put the parking...

100,000+ miles. Out of warranty. Time to trade?

I was told that the parking brake goes bad from lack of use. Ship foreman told me to use it daily it should last a lot longer than if it gets infrequent use. Apply it before shifting into park and it reduces strain on the transmission parking pawl.

    DIY Interior Trim Removal 2014+ L319 LR4...

I 'd like to know how to remove the black lacquer wood piece under the screen. Mine split in half last winter when it was -22 degrees in VT.

    Another Defender hint?

My local dealer here outside Boston told me the same thing...Defender price is firm at the sticker price. No discount & no markup. And I'm old enough to remember when the Honda Prelude was sold over sticker and there were 6 month waiting lists for them.

    Another Defender hint?

I wonder how many of us would have bought that D5 SVX if it wasn't cancelled. I'm sure many of us, myself included would have bought an LR4 SVX if ever offered. SCV8 with the 8-speed transmission would have been the prefect LR4 end-of-the run special edition. We can only dream. :)

    85k Mile Service advice

At 85K I did the differential fluids, transfer case fluid, and transmission fluid & filter. My transmission was also shifting fine and remained that way after the fluid change. I had the shop foreman at a LR dealer (located over an hour away) do the transmission change and he happily used the...

    Non functioning rear camera

^This. If a parking sensor fails it will also cause the rear camera to go out. I have had a parking sensor fail and experienced this. Then I had the opposite and the rear camera died and needed to be replaced. And now I get the "rear camera unavailable" message whenever it rains so I can only...

    Another Defender hint?

I guess if you can't sell the Discovery 5's then you can hand them out as toys so that dealerships can play with them.

    Another Defender hint?

A good friend of mine just traded in an X5 for a bright blue Jeep Wrangler Sahara and he can't stop talking about how much he loves it. He was able to get a manual transmission as well. LR4 is my first automatic transmission daily driver. Nice in gridlock traffic but I want another manual...

    Power Steering Malfunction

Sorry to say that you may have the first LR4 with a power steering issue. Any chance that someone somehow put the wrong fluid into the power steering system?

That assembly plant is new so probably more modern than the UK facility. Audi built a plant in Slovakia and their quality rankings have been going up. https://www.audi.com/en/company/profile/locations/slovakia.html

    Another Defender hint?

LOL...we bought the red one new and now it only has 30K miles on it. When we went to replace the LR3 the 2015 LR4 just wasn't as good as our 2013. So I found the gray 2013 LR4 1000 miles away with 10K miles on it. It's now up to 107K miles so in a couple of years a Defender may replace it.

Supposedly the A6 allroad and RS6 avant will return to the US. You can buy an A6 allroad in Canada already. I'd get another A6 allroad if I could. Not sure where you drive the RS6 in the US other than a racetrack.

^Excellent point. Porsche does a great job of mildly updating the 911 on a regular cycle. I think the problem with the Defender was that it was not refreshed on a consistent schedule and too much time elapsed since the last update. And I totally agree that LR should have just updated the...

    Another Defender hint?

I like it, so far, but it's early. Just downloaded the Defender brochure and found that the GVWR is over 6000 pounds. (Both the 90 and 110) For those of us that own our own business and use our trucks for work, it qualifies for that section 179 tax break.

Has to go better than when I went on my first D5 test drive and pretty much hated everything about it.

    Another Defender hint?

^This is so true. The RNS-E unit in my 2006 A4 avant made us realize the nav in our 2008 LR3 was a joke. I considered getting a new Q7 but couldn't get past having regular tires (not run flats) without any spare tire. Land Rovers are some the few vehicles to still offer a full size spare tire.

I hope we're wrong, but it could easily be a Ford Flex & Kia Soul love child disaster. What engine are we getting? Something all new? Or the rough & slow Discovery Sport 4-cylinder? Maybe the 2010 LR4 5.0 with 4 cylinders plugged and a turbo added?

    Another Defender hint?

Totally agree. If you can't engineer a good nav system internally, then do what Honda did and partner with someone who already developed the technology. When we select nav in our Passport, the first thing you see for a few seconds is the word "Garmin" before the beautiful 3D map appears.

    Another Defender hint?

So true. A couple of years ago I stopped by an AAA office and got a few paper maps that are still in my glove box. Can't trust the LR4 nav to reroute you around an unexpected road closure without going on a multi-state tour. By comparison, the Garmin nav in our Passport is amazing, especially...

New 2013 LR4 owner with a couple questions.

You have to love working a wrench if you prefer taking off the skid plate instead of connecting a Mityvac tube. Then again, getting under these does give you the opportunity to check for any leaks or problems.

New 2013 LR4 owner with a couple questions.

My 2013 warranties are expired. I'm confident that changing the oil myself every 7500 miles using Mobil 1 EP is fine, especially compared to dealer oil changes every 15,000 miles.

Worn & noisy control arms = failed. I'd push for replacement.

New 2013 LR4 owner with a couple questions.

Welcome & congrats on the new LR4. That price seems fair on a 2013 (best LR4 model year, IMO) with 59K miles. You should have no problem going through $5K in repairs between now and 95K miles. Some of mine included: - 2 more water pumps (I'm on water pump #3 at 106K miles) - New front control...
