    Squealing brakes...

I tried a variety of aftermarket brakes on my LR3. In short time the rears always squealed and the front rotors warped, especially in winter. On my LR4 I'm staying with OEM rotors and pads. Replaced at 45K miles and last week at 88K miles. Always quiet, no warping and the lasting for 40K+...

How many miles on your LR4?

I think the one comparison you can see is that all of us that had the original A6-based allroad didn't like the A4-based "smallroad" and tried to keep our allroads running forever. Same with the D5 replacing the LR4. We will try to keep our LR4's going forever.

    Lagging accel pedal?

ZF transmissions have had this issue for years. If you do a rolling stop you catch the transmission doing a second to first gear downshift. Then you suddenly ask it to go and there is that delay.

    The Stupidity Story

I did something similar in VT when it was -20. I opened the LR4 to find the entire center console soaked in some sort of brown slush and thick brown liquid. Apparently the 2 cans of diet Coke that I had in the cupholders froze then exploded. Despite the cold temp, the sun coming through the...

How many miles on your LR4?

Excellent point! I can't believe how nice the interior looks after 5 years and 86K miles of family abuse. I was just applying a coat of wax before winter and cleaned the seats with Lexol. Leather seats looks like new. This is after: kids in wet salt water bathing suits, lots of beach sand, a...

How many miles on your LR4?

Compared to the air suspension on my Audi allroads, ours are rock solid. The lifespan for the allroad air springs was about 75K miles. Not many posts here yet regarding air spring or compressor failures. Seems like the LR3 had more frequent compressor failures than the LR4.

How many miles on your LR4?

    2013 LR4 (wife's) - 27,000 miles 2013 LR4 (mine) - 86,000 miles

    L319 vs. L462...

Sadly, I have to completely agree. Based on driving a D5 loaner and my LR4 in deep sand on the beach, the D5 wins, no contest. Trying to go uphill in sand I can feel my LR4 sinking as it tries to maintain traction. Felt like the D5 was just floating on the sand with perfect traction. Sure...

    Trailer Hitch Key...

Dealers may have a master key for it. My neighbor lost their hitch key plus it was rusted on and kept scraping the bottom of their steep driveway. Dealer was able to remove it somehow.

For those of you thinking about the upcoming winter...

Exactly...you can't tell the difference between 98 & 110 ft pounds. Anywhere in that range will be fine. It's the 200 ft pound impact air gun that will be a nightmare if you get a flat tire. And as noted above, I already replaced 3 lug nuts with twisted caps from either too much torque or...

For those of you thinking about the upcoming winter...

I live near the ocean in the Boston area where it typically rains before it changes to snow or rains after it snows. It's never a problem getting traction in an LR4 regardless of tires. However, winter tires are all about turning and stopping these heavy vehicles, especially in slushy...

For those of you thinking about the upcoming winter...

I think it is just easier to have winter tires on a second set of wheels. You can put them on and take them off at home and tighten the lug nuts to the proper torque which nobody seems to do. However, living in SE PA winter tires may be overkill. You could go with a Nokian WRG3 SUV which is...

For those of you thinking about the upcoming winter...

LOL - same here, 5 sets of 5 tires. With 2 LR4's I have MIchelin Defenders on 20" for spring/summer/fall roads, Nokian SUV R2's for winter and one set of badly worn Cooper Zeons for beach driving in July & August. Easy to find good condition used wheels on ebay. Look for take-offs, not...

LR has had my LR4 for 3 MONTHS!

Totally agree about the XC90 engine. Test drove the Q7 and XC90 back-to-back and the XC90 4-cylinder felt unrefined and outdated despite being brand new. I want the Q7 3.0 in a D5.

LR has had my LR4 for 3 MONTHS!

Exactly what I was thinking...keep my LR4 for beach driving and off road but get a D5 next year for on road. I used to love driving Audi avants (wagons). If I think of a D5 as a replacement for my 2004 Audi allroad, it's a perfect fit. With the lower roof, lower seating position, thinner...

    20” Stormer Wheels on LR4

I know the bolt pattern is the same but the RRS wheel offset is different. I think the LR4 20" wheels are et 43. You should find out what the RRS wheel offset is. They may look goofy if they stick out too far past the wheel wells.

LR has had my LR4 for 3 MONTHS!

I would not be very confident either until I get the truth about the engine. Replacing the timing chain and chain guides is a very common issue on the 2012 LR4. It could take a couple of days as you have to pull off the front bumper to get at it, but not months. Maybe the tech installed it...

LR has had my LR4 for 3 MONTHS!

Like I noted, start with LR corporate and ask them how to proceed. Make it clear that you called for the appointment while still under warranty but they could not get you in before it expired. That will be your biggest battle. The tell them you refuse to go back to LR Sudbury and want to go...

LR has had my LR4 for 3 MONTHS!

I agree with jaguardoc504, have the dealer provide the build sheet. Then you can check the engine serial number to determine if you have the original engine or a replacement. If a replacement, I would want to know where it came from and how many miles on it. If from a junkyard, that seems...

MY name is frank i have a 2010 land rover lr4

I bet the float/sensor in the tank has gone bad. That happened on our LR3 and they replaced the entire tank & sensor. Probably the same washer fluid tank used in the LR3 & LR4.

For those of you thinking about the upcoming winter...

I had the dealer replace the moldings while my LR4 was in for a new tailgate latch actuator. They charged me $30 per molding plus $60 in labor to replace them. Part # on my invoice is CLB000010. If you want to do it yourself, you can get each molding for $21 here...

Your washer fluid reservoir might have a crack...any washer fluid leaking out? It's a common issue and I'm on my second washer fluid tank.

For those of you thinking about the upcoming winter...

It's the piece of rubber on the front half of the rear wheel wells. On both sides mine were partially hanging off. Not sure how they are attached, but I still think it has to be some sort of adhesive. Water and dirt got between the rubber and metal, causing the molding to fall off. I don't...

I think the Nokians were $203 per tire.
