    LR4 - LCA - Longevitiy/Diagnostic

My LCA service has always been sub-$1000 and that's in the DC market. It's been awhile since I've had that done so prices may have changed. I'm having mine checked at the next service event coming up.

    Windshield Cowl Grille Replacement

Looks great. Projects like this are especially satisfying when they fix an actual problem AND improve the look of the vehicle.

OIl Leak - top of engine

I will keep an eye on my engine even though I have half your mileage and it’s a 2013... Reason being that last night I changed my oil and halfway through the refill process I realized that the dealership had sold me 0w-20 instead of the 5w-20 I had ordered over the phone. I was pissed because I...

    LR4 windshield replacement

If you just can't unsee those exposed wires now (I wouldn't be able to either), then try using some tweezers to pull the sheath out a bit and rewrap the bundle, or bust out the tried and true Sharpie and start coloring.

Using the 12v trunk plug without cutting out after 3 minutes?

Given how much apparent vampire current is sucked out of these vehicles, I have come to view the power port shutdown interval as a feature and not a bug. Whenever I'm doing anything where the doors or hatch are open for prolonged period I'll just save myself the anxiety and manually turn off the...

Using the 12v trunk plug without cutting out after 3 minutes?

Thanks for clarifying. Wish the photos would still load because they made it very clear.

Your thoughts on the Ineos Grenadier?

That and everything that followed was awesome.

    The never ending steering knock!!

Are you saying that the cracked LCAs were the first new ones you bought from AB? I had issues with AB LCAs in the past. I ordered a set and my indy shop said they simply didn't fit. AB was great about the return and replacements. However, the replacements didn't fit either! (yes, the correct...

Using the 12v trunk plug without cutting out after 3 minutes?

There's a relay in the fusebox that needs to be modified. It is explained in this post but unfortunately the photos didn't load for me: https://www.landroverworld.org/posts/150760/ Hopefully it will lead you in the right direction at least. The main caveat would be to be aware of the reserve...

    Crossover Pipe Bursted on V8

Yeah, it scares and irritates me (in that order) every time this issue comes up. Given the general age of our vehicles it's becoming one of the most frequent discussion topics.

    Brake Controllers & LR4

What were your main gripes with BT/wireless controllers? I may be towing an Airstream Basecamp at some point and will be revisiting this thread. I have heard consistently good things about the Tekonsha but wireless has obvious benefits if it's reliable.

    Rijidij Rear Tire Carrier

    Definitive roof rack thread?

I always wondered about the physics of that off-center step and how well the attachment system would support that lateral force as you start up it. I think I'll go with a no-drill/no-dismantle passenger side option for starters.

    LR4 Rear Ladder Install Help

I've been having a hell of a time sourcing the OEM ladder but reports like this make me veer to the aftermarket options that go on the starboard side and hook on various edges of the rear hatch. I do like the OEM look and keeping everything stock, though. @cbboard did you ever get this sorted out?

    Does this 5.0 sound healthy?

Agreed. Unfortunately I'd stamp a big red "YIKES" on this vehicle and keep looking as well.

LR4 Newbie - We have problems!

Great to hear. Unfortunately, for all their other advantages, these vehicles have sketchy water pumps. Just about everyone (so it seems) had theirs replaced under warranty when new, and then we add that item to the list for regular inspection and replacement post-warranty. Anecdotally, 50K mile...

Big LR4 issue, cut losses and sell vs fix?

Hmmm, sucks for me that I use Sheetz and Wawa and Love’s a lot when I am on a road trip...none are listed. But at least I get the highest octane they offer each time. And I get some delicious hoagies, 5 Hour Energy, Red Bull, and other road trip junk food!

Let's try to get the facts down on tensioner issues

I don't get any value out of the FB groups and dropped most of them. Maybe it's changed but the vibe was negative to me. An owner would post a photo of a low key mod, or ask a simple question, and the cretins would come out of the woodwork to question/mock/attack. It was ridiculous. Not to...

Big LR4 issue, cut losses and sell vs fix?

Sometimes the Rover's wheel will twitch a little when I go by a BP as if to nudge me in there ("c'mon man, it's the Brit stuff!"). But Shell is my preferred flavor.

    LR4 Rear Ladder Install Help

Can you get a pry tool under the bolt heads so you can apply some pressure as the drill tries to back them out?

Big LR4 issue, cut losses and sell vs fix?

Agreed. I will say this and move along so as not to start yet another oil debate: I use Top Tier premium 93 octane and Castrol OE. Feed it the good stuff, stay up with maintenance, and enjoy life.

LR4 Newbie - We have problems!

A savvy mechanic will closely inspect the bottom surface of the water pump. Coolant can *seep* more than leak from a small hole or crack. It will never even hit the ground in some cases but will instead crystallize around the leak. So no telltale puddle under the vehicle will give it away. Have...

    Buying a used high mileage 2010 LR4

Stepping outside of the purely rational analysis model for this decision just for a second... The fear of taking a loss on a bet is greater than the hope of making a win, even if the odds are the same. This holds true for most people and is human nature...and somewhat rational. (Prospect...

    Bearmach Rear Shelf

Just curious, sounds like you're talking about the ladder they sell with the little curve in it that goes on the passenger side, vs the OEM ladder and Frontrunner style that goes on the driver side. Other than the rust, were you happy with it on that side?
