Skidding to a stop on snow and ice

It's a blast out on the trails. That first time is a definite leap of faith as your front end tips over and down a hill and you have to force yourself to keep your foot off the brake...but it works like a charm. Hard not to smile when you realize how it's working on each corner as needed.

Have them put a ceremonial Terrain Response knob in your fist. You know, for style points.

    Winter is here. Floor Mats?

Are you talking about the little plastic hook that goes through the hole in the mat? I got a bag of those with my 2nd row mats. They are just screw-tipped widgets that you twist into the carpet as best I can tell. I didn't bother using mine for the 2nd row because the mats stay put on their own...

LR4 5.0 Chain Guides actual problem?

Sounds like a very reasonable, and even an excellent, price for this service. Also, lots of fellow members of our Land Rover Owners Maryland group on FB speak highly of Matt. I go to his brother Dan in Gaithersburg, MD and he is super solid as well. Good luck with everything.

Want to build my own Roof Rack

Highlight (select) the question or comment you want to reply to. You will see the "Multi+ | Quote" command popup. Click "Quote" and a new comment box opens with the html code to include the quoted portion and you type your comment below that. The Multi+ option lets you grab quotes from different...

    Winter is here. Floor Mats?

For stuff like this I prefer the OEM stuff. The LR rubber mats have worked fine for me over the years. Granted we have mild winters in DC but our fair share of slop. I have never had a problem with melted runoff escaping from the embossed surface of these mats. However I understand that...

    LR4 Brakes and Rotors

I've got an annoying squeal at low speed (it conveniently announces my arrival every time I pull into the garage and gives my wife plenty of reasons to make fun of my LR4). All rotors and pads are fairly fresh and definitely in spec (and OEM parts). I may try something aftermarket next time if I...

Want to build my own Roof Rack

+1 on the short rail recommendation. I have the extended rails and I actually like the look on an otherwise naked roof. But hands down the short rails are the way to go for just about any major rack that requires rails.

Want to build my own Roof Rack

You took it well, so props for that. Good luck with this and other aspects of your build. The logic and experience behind the comments in this thread may also apply to other items you wish to bolt onto your truck. Some of the best advice I've seen here for eager new owners is to make sure you...

Want to build my own Roof Rack

Plus, that storage location is arguably easier to get to than a rooftop location when TSHTF. Of course, stowing a trashed and muddy dripping MaxTrax back inside your vehicle after your recovery is another discussion (granted most savvy offroaders will have a storage sack or tarp for that situation).

2015 LR4 HSE Windshield Wiper (Front + Back)

This cracked me up. Good tip about using a pin to redirect. I would have been concerned about messing up the opening and resulting stream but if it has worked for you I will keep it in mind.

Want to build my own Roof Rack

I'm looking forward to the responses... My hot take given your current level of LR4 expertise (growing though it may be) is that you should concentrate on finding a used rack versus trying to assemble all of the nearly infinite data and various permutations that would go into a self-designed...

What tools should i buy to work on my LR4 at home?

Didn't try all of the links but the Mechanic's tool set got me intrigued. It goes to a page with an illustration of the set for $3.20 but it's actually for a set of 17mm Car Chrome Alloy Wheel Bolt Nut Covers Caps For Ford Peugeot Citroen 20Pcs. Trust me, I tried buying the tools for 3 bux but...

    Automatic Folding Mirror Issue

My 2013 driver side mirror is acting a little flaky, too. I noticed that when it autofolds in after locking with the keyfob, that the bezel is slightly touching the window. It works correctly on the passenger side and just folds in close without touching.

    LR4 Brakes and Rotors

Ah, that explains it right there. Dino vs synth or even the 5-star Castrol truffle oil that I still use. But you still have a point about the extra trip I make each time I change my oil...and I drive right by one of my area dealers on the way to the used oil drop off center. But as mentioned...

    Towing Questions.

Correct. This has been discussed in several towing threads. The manual discourages WD hitches. Many owners use them anyway and with seemingly fine results, but it’s not officially recommended.

    LR4 Brakes and Rotors

That's a helluva deal, @jwest. We're up around $180+ here in DC so amortizing the cost of my DIY MityVac was fast. If we had LR dealer oil changes for $75 I'd probably go for it just to get out of the house.

    Diy timing chain

Thanks. I have read that here and was also told as much by one of my local dealers. I follow the oil discussions to a degree. Even there it seems that there are questions about 0w and whether LR is going that way for MPG gains at the expense of engine wear (one of many conjectures). It's one of...

    Diy timing chain

Lower “w” number means lower viscosity, right? Is the theory better penetration and coverage by going with 0w20? I have also considered it but haven’t done it yet.

I ask you, is there a vehicle out there that delivers more pure fun but also more scares-per-minute than a Land Rover??!! We're a sick bunch. All Weather or Snow Tires ?

The G4 is an excellent all-weather tire and is snowflake-rated for winter use. I had (and loved) a set of G3 and remain a big fan. The Hakka is widely acclaimed as one of the best snow tires available if your seasonal needs are more extreme. IMO, the G4 would be a great all-around choice for...

Fuel leak and mechanics won’t let me drive it

Others have already responded and at any rate, if your timing chain isn't making obvious noises that it's slapping around in there, you're not likely to be covered for that expensive job until it needs it. I commented because timing chains have achieved infamy among owners. Take the advice...

    New & First Time Owner!

Agree with @TheWidup. Without going into a lengthy analysis I would consider this a fair price for this vehicle with features and history as described. None of the dealer fixes appear to be exotic issues and the newish water pump should be a source of comfort to some degree. Keep us posted!
