    Timing Chain repair costs

Thanks for this. Just to restate, you contacted LRNA directly (vs the dealership) and opened a case stating your rig's VINs fell into range of the TSB on the 5.0 timing chain tensioners and levers? Just trying to determine my next steps. I'm at 167k on my '11 HSE and haven't stepped foot in my...

    Tranny slips 3rd to 4th

Update: I checked the code with the dealer and he told me it wasn't (rattled off a few diff Transmission codes) that would be fixed with a SW upgrade. Yeah, he wished me luck and gave me a quote for $6k for them to replace with a rebuilt. After making a few calls to a number of Transmission...

    Tranny slips 3rd to 4th

Curious, are you waiting for an eventual failure or going proactive mode. I've priced out Transmissions...2400-3500 plus labor. I'm on the fence. Everything else runs great. I don't want to be pollyanna but I expect to hit 200k on V8s. Seems like giving up, if that makes any sense. My GS is...

    Tranny slips 3rd to 4th

It's been mine since Day 1. I stuck with recommendations from LR Service, so not as frequent as you or other users, I'm afraid. Given that I've followed mfg recommendations, I'd hope I'd be immune from mechanical failure, but that would be ridiculous belief. I guess I'm cutting bait which bums...

    Tranny slips 3rd to 4th

Hey all, My '11 LR4 (143k miles) is experiencing intermittent slippage at ~30MPH usually when coasting or decelerating. If the pedal is down, no issues except for a slight shimmy that I just noticed today. It's a recent event but is happening once every other day. I've searched this forum and...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Great info Hey all, Thanks for the detailed info and shared experiences. I've got an '11 LR4. I've read a few different M1 EP and Castrol Edge Pro docs/bottles, which I'm sure are older given the new specs that replaced the 925A. Anyhow, both vendors stated 0w20 was the correct viscosity for...

    Advice on Rockcrawler (Disco?)

Hi, I'm interested in getting a offroad vehicle for rock crawling. I'm an LR4 owner now, so I'm enamored with its capabilities. I'm thinking of grabbing a rig for overlanding (Disco, Cherokee or Landcruiser). I know the Disco has a center lock diff. If I were to get a disco, what would...

Dealers who can sell / ship Castrol SLX 5w-20

Check with your dealer, but they should give you your oil change whenever you want it, not when you hit 15k. That should buy you some time. I had my dealer do mine at 5k last summer. BTW, thanks for the specifics on the filter wrench. I read on another Rover forum that some NAPAs carry SLX...

    Mud Flaps

Hope this helps somebody.... The brackets connect to a hole that's adjacent to the heat shield (protecting fender from muffler). Crawl under the rig under the muffler. Picture #3 shows the heatshield (depicted as a checkerbox "thing"). Bend the aluminum heat shield a smidge for clear access to...

Height of Rover Cross bars vs. Thule/Yakima Option

Rack N Road sells them as well.......good luck

Height of Rover Cross bars vs. Thule/Yakima Option

closest.....I intended to unlock the sleeve and show the locking knob, but someone moved the key I had stored in the glove box. Of course, no one's fessing up (probably my fault). Anyhow...if you look on the far side, you'll see a red knob. That's what you use to screw the foot to the rail. I've...

Height of Rover Cross bars vs. Thule/Yakima Option

Whispbars fit great on the OEM rail kit. My primary use is for my Thule Atlantis 1800 XT roof box. The Whispbars are very easy to get on/off. The key unlocks the hub, then you unscrew the knob. I take them off when I wash my rig. No big deal. I'll post a pic for you, if interested.

Height of Rover Cross bars vs. Thule/Yakima Option

I have Whispbars installed on the factory long rail kit. They measure 4.5" at the highest point off the roof. These bars are awesome if you can spare the extra inch. They are so quiet at various speeds. Yakima just bought the company earlier this year. You can always lower your rig to access...

    Running boards / side steps

Thanks for the pics, Brep. I'm really torn as I prefer the nerf bar look of the romiks but not sure if the added hassle of finding a shop to grind the bracket is worth it. I'm really surprised that there aren't more aftermarket mfgs making external accessories for the LR4. Maybe it's too...

    Running boards / side steps

Thanks for the tip Charlie. I ordered the same romiks (black). Your ride is sharp, congrats. What kind of tool did you use to shave the metal bracket (I pray it was nothing more than a dremel). I guess it's self evident once you get both flaps and bar installed, yes? Thanks in advance

    Running boards / side steps

I'd love to see pics if you have them. I am torn b/w the BPUtah running boards and the CarID ROMIKs, which I ordered a month ago but are still backordered. Do the mudflaps get in the way of the running boards? My BP dealer told me they did, so I didn't bother to order at time of pickup, which I...

    HID installed

Hi All, So glad I found this thread. I was just looking at a 10000k bulb kit this morning (Notto SE) on CarID.com for $99. This site points you to a Sylvania site which incorrectly states to use H7 for low beams. Thanks for the information as I would have gone down the wrong path for sure, as...
