Actually, Mercedes did the same thing. 2014 GL450 had a twin turbo V8, exactly the same mechanically as the GL550, just with a different tune. 2015 GL450 went to a TT V-6. I got lucky on both models, having a 2014 GL450 and 2012 LR4, both with V8s. -

Very true. I have a 2012 LUX and a 2014 GL 450. I like the looks of the LR4 better, but the GL is a superior vehicle. Ride, comfort, engine, etc... it all goes to the GL. Off road, the LR4 would likely be better unless you get the off road package for the GL. Then you'd be pretty close... -

Winter tire advice needed
I put some Nokian WRG2 tires on a 19" set that I bought off of eBay. I purchased the TPMS sensors for each wheel and haven't had a minutes worth of trouble from them. I switch back to the 20" gloss black in the summer, but you can run the WRG2 tires all year if desired. -

Dan, The manual wheel adjustment at least indicates that it was a Lux edition because that was a standard option in my 2012 Lux. I've driven the a couple of LX570 and feel that their ride more floaty than the LR4. To me, the LR4 is moderately soft sprung, but tight as far as steering, etc...
