Interesting use of a stethoscope. Could you see evidence of the leak once you isolated it?
I love my LR3. It's so well designed in many ways but let down badly in others. LR not following through consistently on quality and maintainability. Some things leave you just shaking your head, and...
The most important feature/consideration of any Land Rover is reliability. They can be complicated troublesome POS. Like you, my 08 LR3 has been very good. The seats continue to be comfortable and hard wearing. Everything works. I would not spend significant $$ to move to something that is...
Clean out the whole area where the receiver goes, especially the hole where the main pin engages in to with a bit of emery/sand paper. Spray the whole area including hole with lube. Take just the LR receiver and line it up square in the mount and firmly push it up to engage. Using your finger...
We are lucky in Canada as we have only have 15yr rule.
Southern european 200 or 300 tdi is the way to go if your state allows. Way better gas mileage/range and still fine for 70mph cruising. $35 - 45 U.S. ish ? plus a bit of refurb.. obviously a crude drive compared modern defender.
Or an old defender and put Ashcroft lockers in. A lifted 90 on 33s 255/85/16 with lockers gets you to a lot of places. If you want to sleep in the back or carry gear, a 110 is nearly as good.
Interesting contrast with the folks who go off road and want an accessible full size spare instead of the failure prone PITA underslung winch system. Only topped by the ridiculous $700 failure prone tow hitch. Guess that's why i bought a 90 too..
Bronco looks interesting. Hard to beat lr3/4s...
In pre Orwellian times, ie before the advent of cameras and managed motorways, and when we had a few million less people ... life oop North was a bit easier shall we say. Xjs was worth having then. Have you watched top gear?
Ive had problem way back with 93 lexus and atvs. Leaving vehicle parked up seems to be root of the problem. We work from home and have multiple vehicles nowadays..
Regarding rat deterrents seems peppermint oil is one of the most recognised and effective...
Im on my second LR hitch, an lr4 one. I had lr3 one previously. Complete garbage in my opinion. Do not leave on the vehicle for any length of time as they can be hard to get off. Even only installing it when towing and lubricating mine with graphite lock lubricant it takes some banging to get it...
Owned my 08 HSE for 8yrs now and it seems to be wearing very well indeed. 150+ miles. Its on the original exhaust, starter, alternator etc. Engine still seems quiet, no drop off in power or mpg that i can detect. Does not use any oil at all. Yes it's had regular 5w40 synthetic oil. Tranny fine...
For heavy suv/pickups modern turbo diesel is absolutely the way to go. Shame LR didn't bring 3.0 v6 tdi here. 30mpg and good torque.
I know i know... California emissions rules.
Thanks very much. Sounds like the Rhino one is well up to the task and best for heavy duty towing.
I typically only tow around 1600lbs, trailer and contents. My LR one came off but took a little persuading. Only been on about a week. Im going to thoroughly clean the receiver hole especially...
Rhino hitch looks interesting and great that it doesn't take hardly anything from departure angle. Would be good to test fit a few of the styles to see closely how they work.
From photos the Walmart/AB style one has rigid vertical support where under tow stress pushes in to vertical chassis...
We know the LR hitch adaptor is prone to being difficult to remove. I'm on second one and they are simply a POS. Looking at alternatives... has anyone tried the Walmart bolt on ?

Airing down a higher profile tire gives you greater increase in footprint than lower profile and you can accommodate more loss of sidewall height and less likely to get rim contact/damage. For off road use 15, 16, 17" rims much better than 18 and above. For v8 lr3 and lr4 18" is as small as you...
I have 265/60/18 bfg ko2 on my Lr3. They work great if you plan to go off road or long overland off road routes. You have some ability to air down.. I had to drop pressure to 15 to extricate myself from sand. Tough tire. Good traction off road and in snow. Even ran a snowmobile trail when...
5600lb truck on low profile the sidewalls have to be tough. I switched to lr 18" rims and went for bfg at ko2 265/60/18. No rubbing, only fractionally larger than stock.
Great tire in snow but they are heavy compared to the previous 255/55/19 Nokian wr3 suv road tire. 50lb vs about 35lb. Lose...
