Just to close this out, it was the battery. I had the alternator tested by a local imports place and it tested good. The bad news is the right side tie rod bushings are shot so that is getting sorted with a full alignment. Other than that the brake pads are down to 5mm so I will need to change... -

Leaving the hood / bonnet open overnight for rats.
Yeah, i have this issue too. 2 things I have been told about. 1. Stick a bar of irish spring soap under your hood somewhere, apparently the strong smell keeps rata away 2. Get a "rat zapper" and put near your car. Hope this helps. -
