(Cheap fix): Go to Harbor Freight if you have one near by and get a cylinder pressure gauge. Its a good idea to know your cylinder PSI anyway and the gauge is about $20 bucks. Great, Glad to hear it. I bought a perfect 01 Disco for 1200.00 from a soccer mom A while back, because Her mechanic couldn’t find the problem. Same thing, a crank sensor. They get pretty hot where that are located and they fail. good catch. -

Codes and no start
SO it was a faulty ECM? that would be a good reason for multi spark failure across both coils. Typically I have found most of the Discovery's up for sale cheap are electrical issues and the local mechanic has plugged one new part in after the other until the owner gets tired of paying for it... -

Cracked head?
Most likely the head gasket. At least you can start there. Pull a spark plug and blow air in look for bubbles in the coolant. If it is pushing coolant out the tail pipe like you say, it should push bubbles back into the coolant. May have to find top dead for each cylinder so valves are closed... -

Yes, Regardless of the electrical system the CPS is just a mini generator, so it will create a current when the engine turns over. The CPS sends the current to the ECM to time the engine. It doesnt need the battery to create the small amount of voltage that the ECM needs to sense the position... -

The spacer is part of the ground. Alum, conducts electricity so just bolt the part up and it will conduct the grounding. Like I said if you are in doubt you can install a jumper wire from the bolt to the frame somewhere. -

Ya not true about buying the ECMs together. They have to be programed to your vehicle on Test Book. Check the Oms and crank the engine to see if you get 3 to 4 volts.
