Cowl Trim replacement
The cowl on my '05 was very warped, but instead of buying/installing a new cowl, I went to Home Depot and got some black weather-sealer Caulk for glass and filled in the gap between the glass and cowl. Seems to work so far.- dantheman1

Brake Pad Choices?
I'd highly recommend the EBC green stuff pads. They're a bit dusty and squeak a little bit when warmed up, but I notice a firmer pedal and slightly quicker stopping. Also, it's best to stick with the OEM LR rotors. They're actually sourced from brembo, good quality stuff. The other's I've tried...- dantheman1

HSE nav question.
I'm pretty sure there's a separate light sensor just for the nav screen, not connected to the headlights. It dims whenever it begins to get dark outside, regardless if the headlights are on.- dantheman1

Steering play?
I have the same thing at low speeds, it's very subtle. The dealer just replaced my entire steering rack 5k miles ago (for different reasons) so I'm pretty sure that's just how they are. Although, I'm thinking it might be my alignment and very worn tires.- dantheman1

I've only had to replace the tie rods once somewhere between 60-70k miles. Your friend probably had the stock goodyear tires on his truck. Where have you heard this? Although the bushings are softer for US-spec LR3's (something about fat americans wanting a smoother ride), I still got 60k miles out of the first set. '08 vs. '09 LR3
I think the 2008's were the last to offer free 4 year/50k mile maintenance, which is not the same as the 4yr/50k mile warranty which they both have.
