    Persistent misfire under load only

OK, I’m home and starting to delve into this a bit more. To try to demystify the results I’m getting from the GAP tool, I decided to disconnect some of the ignition coils one at a time from their respective plugs and record live values in GAP to see if I could spot a pattern. Reminder: can’t...

    Persistent misfire under load only

OK, here is the test, run with no load on the engine. You can see I futzed around trying to get it closer to 1500RPM before just leaving it at 1800 where it seemed to want to sit. I'm not sure what it tells me, TBH: Same graph with all the axes showing at left:

    Persistent misfire under load only

@jlglr4 are there any recommendations for how many seconds at each step (idle, 1500, 3000) to maintain for this test?

    Persistent misfire under load only

Thank you, @Rover Range for explaining that part. I assume, then, that the computer doesn’t care what is causing the misfire? @jlglr4 Thank you as well. I’ll give that test a try. And yes, indications are only one cylinder misfiring. I recorded a log where only cylinder 4 was misfiring...

    Persistent misfire under load only

One more piece of data from this, which I hope might point someone to what might be at the heart of this: this morning, when I was able to get it to misfire again (again, flooring it from 50mph), the misfire "stuck," with the engine running rough and obviously misfiring consistently right down...

Where is this supposed to be bolted? (Part #EH22-13N850-FC)

I always appreciate your detailed insights, @Rover Range.

Where is this supposed to be bolted? (Part #EH22-13N850-FC)

Back of manifold! That was my guess, based on where it was and the hole diameter. Many thanks!

Where is this supposed to be bolted? (Part #EH22-13N850-FC)

This appears to be one end of a grounding wire, looking for a place to call home. Not sure when it would have been disconnected, and I assume this is unrelated to other issues I'm having, but I found it near the back of the intake manifold, and feel like hooking it up. Anybody know what the ends...

    Persistent misfire under load only

I'd be interested in seeing your evidence for this. It was my understanding that the GAP tool was developed with some input from LR, and it's in pretty common use by people here.

    P0170 fuel trim and CEL

Reviving a very old thread, because the issue was pretty persistent this last long trip. It seems like trips of a few hundred miles start the behavior up. I've attached a log I recorded when I believe this was reliably happening. You could clear the code in the GAP tool, and it would...

    Persistent misfire under load only

Yeah, that’s kind of how I was leaning, too, after lying awake thinking things over last night. But the timing of the plug change has me wondering. So here are my main questions: 1. Does anyone know why the GAP tool would show #4 misfiring, but the trouble code would indicate #5? Or more...

    Persistent misfire under load only

Can do, but it’s really odd that it is so load-dependent. If it’s running below about 90% load, it never seems to misfire. And if I force it to stay in 8th gear and floor it from 50mph, it’s slow acceleration, but no misfire. The other thing that may not be coincidence is that this is the...

    Persistent misfire under load only

Fuel trim screen shots, but again, this code hasn't reappeared today. It’s the misfire I’m more worried about today.

    Persistent misfire under load only

Which fuel trims in there should I be reading? There are many of them, and some seem to just report NA.

    Persistent misfire under load only

Correction: the CODE indicates cylinder 5, but live values seem to point to #4. (Plugs were all replaced recently) Any reason to think that either the code or the live values are reporting the wrong cylinder?

    Persistent misfire under load only

I’m on a trip, and running into a weird one. First CEL that came on was for fuel trim, bank 1. That’s happened before, very inconsistently. This trip, I’d clear it, and it would almost immediately come back. Until suddenly it didn’t. Today, though, passing a vehicle I floored it and it...

Multiple Errors - Parking Brake, Suspension, Fun!

I would guess that this only applies to disconnected batteries, which by definition have zero load on them. Even asleep, these vehicles draw some current from the main battery. I don't think I've ever measured 12.6V on the connected battery under my hood, even when it was new. In the sun, with...

Multiple Errors - Parking Brake, Suspension, Fun!

I’m not sure those are the only two possibilities. And I hope somebody with more expertise into this particular charging system weighs in. But… 1. You put battery on charger overnight, and battery is fully charged. 2. You start the truck, pulling hundreds of amps in doing so. Battery is no...

Multiple Errors - Parking Brake, Suspension, Fun!

I'm no expert on how the charging system is supposed to work. I'll defer to someone else with more knowledge here. But I believe that a really good, fully charged battery might not inspire the LR alternator to push out higher average voltages using its PWM system.

Multiple Errors - Parking Brake, Suspension, Fun!

I think raw voltage measurements on this system are dodgy, since the alternator does not work the same as an alternator from the ‘80s would have. It’s a PWM system, if I remember right, so that makes it difficult. What the low voltage could be telling you is that the computer determined no...

    Hardware key issue

Right. I did try that, but TBH I couldn’t see down inside enough to make out whether the cable case is intact all the way or not. But the symptoms are just like in the video I linked to above. So I ordered the part and hope for the best.

    Hardware key issue

Found a good YT vid here that seems to describe what is likely happening. I was thinking it was an electrical issue, but no, it's mechanical and likely not in the lock mechanism at all. So cable ordered, and meanwhile hoping that I won't need emergency entry.

    Hardware key issue

I did work open the little "door" on the opening and pushed a lot of compressed air through it, in case I'd overloaded it with graphite. Some came out, but no change in the behavior.

    Hardware key issue

So...getting ready for summer travel season, I decided to make sure things are still working. And the recent thread about getting into the vehicle without a working battery in the key fob made me want to test that, too. Short version is that it worked...once. Long version is that the key was...

    2011 LR4 Lux Non-HD Head Unit Replacement

Is the pop coming from the speakers? Might be an intermittent power issue that affects both the power amplifier(s) and the camera?
