OK, here is the test, run with no load on the engine. You can see I futzed around trying to get it closer to 1500RPM before just leaving it at 1800 where it seemed to want to sit. I'm not sure what it tells me, TBH: Same graph with all the axes showing at left: -

This appears to be one end of a grounding wire, looking for a place to call home. Not sure when it would have been disconnected, and I assume this is unrelated to other issues I'm having, but I found it near the back of the intake manifold, and feel like hooking it up. Can do, but it’s really odd that it is so load-dependent. If it’s running below about 90% load, it never seems to misfire. And if I force it to stay in 8th gear and floor it from 50mph, it’s slow acceleration, but no misfire. The other thing that may not be coincidence is that this is the... -

Correction: the CODE indicates cylinder 5, but live values seem to point to #4. (Plugs were all replaced recently) Any reason to think that either the code or the live values are reporting the wrong cylinder? -

I'm no expert on how the charging system is supposed to work. I'll defer to someone else with more knowledge here. But I believe that a really good, fully charged battery might not inspire the LR alternator to push out higher average voltages using its PWM system. -

I think raw voltage measurements on this system are dodgy, since the alternator does not work the same as an alternator from the ‘80s would have. It’s a PWM system, if I remember right, so that makes it difficult. What the low voltage could be telling you is that the computer determined no... -

Right. I did try that, but TBH I couldn’t see down inside enough to make out whether the cable case is intact all the way or not. But the symptoms are just like in the video I linked to above. So I ordered the part and hope for the best. -

I did work open the little "door" on the opening and pushed a lot of compressed air through it, in case I'd overloaded it with graphite. Some came out, but no change in the behavior. -
