have 1995 Discovery 3.9L
has 57k miles

within the last few months:
water pump replacement 700.00
entire engine removed and resealed 3900.00

This week:

#3 cylinder sleeve slipped estimated repairs at 9700.00!

I can't help but think that the sleeve problem was caused by a poor mechanic? Any advice as to what might have caused the slip? Engine ran fine before remove and reseal completed.

In Addition

I think I should mention that the vehicle was by no means even warm. I don't beat the crap out of the engine. I use premium gas and engine treatments to ensure I have plenty of octane. I drive the thing 5 miles to work everyday!

I need advice...

My advise would be go to another mechanic and not the dealer. If you car is out of warranty, don't go to the dealer, find a local mechanic that can work on you vehicle. You can get a 3.9L Rover block for $400 here and just have a mechanic to swap everything. Should cost no more than $2000 total unless you know someone that can work on it.

If you can't get it fixed inexpensive depending on where you live, you can pick up another '95 Disco from $4-7000

Call these guys and ask them about an engine, they have new and used engine and blocks in stock also.

Good luck!

the answer to your question is yes you have been ripped by the dealer.

Resealed the engine? let me guess you had a couple oil leaks..... this is Normal on a 1960's engine.

Liner slipped... what are the simptoms? For the money you spent so far you could have bought a spare Rover and for the 9k you could buy a 99 DII
