The LR4 is growing on me with the body-on-frame design, independent air suspension, a V8, 6 speed, 4 LO, 4 HI, AWD and off-the-line acceleration. I was cleaning my seats with special leather cleaner the other day, but not not with just any cleaner and treatment that you can buy off the shelf. These products have been around for decades and I never had leather that was good enough to use it with. That and my leather was black lol. I wanted tan for this rig and below are the before and after shots. I swear to god the leather smell is toxic. I love stepping into it in the morning on the way to the gym. I open the door and get a strong whiff of leather smell and its even better when getting inside. The seats are comfortable asf and I slide nicely into the driving position. I love this thing. $15k 99k mi and I've been driving it everywhere within towing distance lol. I just needed to fix a coolant leak. It has an engine problem too but I'm going to get an experts opinion, even if I have to go to the dealer but I certainly won't be paying them to do repairs. I'd be paying for a diagnosis probably. Even then, there is no guarantee a mechanic that knows land rovers is going to be working on it.
Below is a pic before the leather cleaner and conditioner and pics after the work was completed. The kit has special oils for the leather and when cleaning it, I could feel a consistent difference in friction when the leather was actually cleaned and anything left that isn't tan is warn off die. I used a soft bristle brush I bought at a farm and feed store, they had probably 10 different brushes to choose from. I sprayed the cleaner on the leather, scrubbed it with a brush and then wiped it down with a white high-end synthetic cloth that was specially crafted for car detailing. These rags are seamless so the sharp threads on the seams won't scratch because they don't exist. The wiping removed the dirt the brush and chemicals loosened up and it was pretty fun. The armrests are all leather, Land Rover didn't peter-out and use vinyl there like Chevy would have done. These aren't seats, they are captains chairs. These chairs have more adjustability than I could have imagined, at least for the drivers seat.
Here is a shot after cleaning dark marks where the armrest rotates across the seat back
This shows more of the condition of the seat back where all the gizmos are hidden. That extra leather there seems like it would be needed for the lumbar settings at full extent
This shot was to get the sun on it because the previous pictures weren't doing justice. You have to see it and sit on it to really be blown away by the quality and craftsmanship of the seats.
I finally found a chair that is comfortable and I can sit inside the cargo space looking backwards without hitting my head. I found it in the Las Vegas mall of all places and tried quite a few, starting with a stadium bench seat since it is low-profile. I went into a parking garage, took a space and had an easy time manouvering around taking sharp corners and even backing up when shopping. The LR4 turns sharp and it has a lot of power. You can't get around in a metro area let alone a parking garage like that in a Corvette and a lot of vehicles out there.
I'm going to make a workspace in the back so that when I'm overlanding and a storm is coming, I can drop my tent and take cover but still get my work done. The chair in the pic below I bought at Sportsmans. With the 2nd row down it is better having more room, but even where it is I can catch rays sitting there with my legs hanging out but still sheltered from the sun. The views from the rear looking backwards are massive. The hatch glass is a perfect sun block and a rain cover. We had some serious rain the other week, 3 inches in about an hour with flash flooding in the city. I had to go out and explore because I could. I couln't do that in a car and the LR4 is specially designed to drive through water with no negative impacts.
