battery light staying on?

Hi all I have just got my first disco 200tdi 1993 3door,and the battery light is staying on but the alternator is charging still,i was told by a mate that it could be a black resistor on the back of the alternator has anyone come across this before?

any help would be gratefully received.

could be a risistor issue, but I would still check voltage of the battery with engine off, and output of the Alernator just to be sure.
