BOG HOLES

Always try to drive around, as the depth of water and mud is unknown, but if your committed to driving through it.......
* Check the various depths with a 'wading stick'.
* Deflate your tires in the range:- 36-15 psi (250-104 kpa), depending on the depth and length of the boghole.
* Turn on the windshield wiper before slogging through a big mud puddle as the wipers may not be able to handle a thick layer after it accumulates.

• Observe the vehicle in front. Sometimes a wave rolling across a mud hole will expose a shallow shelf that you can get your wheels on.
• If beginning to be stuck, swing the steering wheel from side to side.
• If the wheels spin, ease off the throttle.
* If stuck, try immediate reverse, and reverse out in the same track, if possible, which may be hard or impossible to see, if it’s covered with sloppy mud and/or water.
• Select the appropriate gear, usually 2nd or 3rd low range, depending on depth of the bog hole. Diff, and axle lock (if fitted) engaged.
• Steady power and momentum must not be lost.

* Wash off any mud from inside of wheel rims. Failure to do this could cause bad wheel balance problems. Check that there is no mud on the radiator, as this will cause overheating.
Clean off any mud caked on the driveshaft, as it could throw them out of balance, and cause severe damage, especially when back on the highway at speed.
* If you get water in the computer. Strip it down as much as possible and dry with compressed air and spray with WD40.
• If snatching is necessary, fasten your seat belt!
