Buying a 1998 Land Rover Discovery

I am looking to buy a 1998 Land Rover Discovery and would like to hear some feed back about good and bad points of owning one. I live in Houston, Texas so it will be doing alot of city driving. But my boyfriend and I are really big 4-wheel buffs. He just got back from his first trip to Moab and loved it. The Disco is clean -- really clean -- but I would like to know how sound of a SUV it is. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for all the great info on the forum I have learned some things already.

I'm not sure how much you know about LRs but they can be maintenance hogs if you don't check them out thoroughly. Have it taken to an independent LR mechanic (one that works on a lot of them, not just one that says they can work on them) or the dealership service dept and have the car looked over closely. It'll be worth the money.
