I have a 2000 Disco II that just turned 80k miles, a couple months ago the sevice engine light came on when the truck started sputtering like it was missing, but would be fine the next day or after I filled the tank. It seemed to be caused by gas from various stations but then would be fine for a week or more, then 3 weeks ago it started sputtering and hasn't stopped but it seems to run ok at 2800+ RPMs, I changed the plug wires, plugs, cleaned the MAFS and no change. I took it to the dealer on Fri. They said there was only 8lbs of pressure in cyl #5. They think the cylinder sleeve has dropped and recommend a new motor. Please help!!!!!! They quoted me $6000-8000 to put in a used motor. I don't understand how I could put over 2000 miles on a motor with a major problem like this. I think it is a valve issue. Anybody out there with a suggestion?

Go for a second option, the price they quoted you is Hi, especialy for a used engine. Do you have alot of blow by coming from your oil fill tube?

WOW, that is a lot of money, 75% of that has to be labor or does that include a supercharger or twin turbo set up (LOL). You can find yourself a rebuilt or reman'd from 1200 to 2400 depending on where you go.
